Hello all; well I'm back, Rocky. I'm getting a bit frustrated at escorts who post on columns such as men4rent.com and say they are in a certain city. Sometimes they post the dates they are available other times they are not. I've been met with hostility "I don't intend to visit your city for months" to; well when I'm in the area I'll contact you, to posting you are available, me responding and nothing in return. Isn't it courtesy to remove your non current ad from such venues? When I travel I like to have fun and meet guys, don't think that makes me a bad person. I also know that there might be a price involved, again hope I'm not a bad person. So when I'm traveling to such area's as Key West, upstate New York, etc and find out well what made you expect I'd be in town, YOUR AD DID!! Am I wrong??

Among the many flaws of M4RN is that the site encourages this behavior, giving the escort visibility in multiple cities if he so chooses for the cost of one ad. This is somewhat mitigated by your ability to search for "home city ads only" which should weed out most of the future-trippers. Why that option wouldn't be the default search is beyond me.

If an escort doesn't have specific dates for a travel city, I figure he's fishing - if he gets enough inquiries, he MAY decide to visit. In the past I sent some emails, and got very few responses, so I stopped contacting anyone 'traveling' unless they had specific dates for my location - and even then, some guys apparently didn't make the future trips. My suspicion is that they decided not to travel because of insufficient interest.

Traveling escorts have to make enough to cover travel expenses AND turn a profit, so I'm also wary that some of them may take more clients than they can satisfy. Unless the traveling escort is well-reviewed here, I'm likely to pass. (I've seen a couple of well-regarded guys here who traveled to my city and provided excellent service! Sean Knight & Romann come to mind!)

I don't use M4RN for a variety of reasons; however, let me clarify why I place multiple ads on Rentboy. I have to set my itinerary up in advance, or I can't go to a city. I place my ads 2 weeks in advance (for a first-time visit to a new city, I may even do 2.5 - 3 weeks), and I have my dates in the headline of the ad. This allows me the time I need to handle my bidnizz. In cities I have visited before, I also reach out to those who have contacted me in that area in the past. I give them two weeks' notice, so that they can make solid plans. I don't generally like last second appointments (which have a much higher rate of cancellation), so this is how I try to make sure I have time to build up contacts and appointments (and replace those who may cancel). For cities that I visit most frequently, or for those cities where my email generates enough billable hours, I just let the ad sit there to collect more potential contacts for the future.

I'm sure every escort has his own 'modus operandi' and I see nothing wrong with that, Devon. With the amount of traveling I do if I let a Rentboy ad or Men4RentNow ad active ad in a city I'm not visiting I would need a personal assistant to respond to every inquiry.

 

I guess that I rather look for efficiency when I set up an ad and the day I leave a given city my travel ad vanishes from the face of the earth.

I have found that works best for myself and any potential client.

Good discussion. Thanks for raising the topic, Rocky, as I've been perplexed by this very issue from time to time. When considering men featured on M4RN, I've assumed an escort is based in the city that is listed FIRST in his profile. If he lists additional "Traveling Cities," I've interpreted that to mean he plans to travel there (if he has specific travel dates posted) OR that he is willing to and/or interested in travelling there (if he has no specific dates posted).

 

Are my assumptions anywhere close to being accurate?
