Well, the New Year has bought on some new responsibilities (well, same ones as last year LOL). I just recently relocated out of state and also just got a new place.

My concern though is that I may need to look for a 2nd job to live the way I want to. I don't want to just pay rent and bills and nothing else. I enjoy shopping and having extra money...plus, I need to anyway. I just went on a crazy winter shopping spree last month...and the only reason is because I was living in between friends/hotels and traveling a lot. I want to be able to do that every month!

But, just looking through the classifieds just make my stomach churn. I have not worked a real normal job in quite a while. I have pretty much been doing administrative 'tasks' from home (no really, my room is as every much an office as it is a bedroom). I just don't know where to start. I'm afraid that it'll be very hard for anyone to want to hire me because I don't have 2 years of this experience or 2 years of that experience...

But I really do want to get something because I hate it when slow weeks come around, and I'm scrambling to get clients....I just don't want to be in that position again. Sure, it's livable income...but its the down times I want to be prepared for. An for example, it's been snowing, below 0 and freezing for the past few days and not a single client has showed up. And I just made a deposit on my new condo and it's Friday and I haven't gotten paid and I'm running on empty :(

I wouldn't want to be missing clients either because I'm at work, so definently thinking of something very part-time....like 12pm-6pm or something weekdays or a Saturday job. But I am clueless as to whats out there anymore that I can qualify for

My concern though is that I need to look for a 1st job to live the way I want to. I don't want to just pay rent and bills and nothing else. I enjoy shopping and having extra money...plus, I need to go to Palm Springs in a couple months. I wasn't able to go on a crazy winter shopping spree last month...and the only reason is because I was helping my business partner (and soon his daughter) to survive.

I just don't know where to start. I'm afraid that it'll be very hard for anyone to want to hire me because I am way over qualified for most of the jobs that I find advertised.

An for example, it's been raining, and almost freezing for the past few days and not a single prospect has showed up. And I signed the contacts for next years Collocation and Backbone Internet access and it's Friday and I haven't gotten paid and I'm running on empty.

Honey, I'm not teasing you and every word I said is the God awful truth. The point is that we're all hurting really, really bad.

If you have a chance for a job, take it! You'll find that most clients will work around your schedule. If not, tie a knot on the end of the rope and hang in there.

It will get better but not for another year or two. There are a lot of us that completely understand the situation your in and if you look around you'll find that they're standing with you in the same boat.

I can imagine. With that said, even if things are going well...I like to be able to have the freedom of failure. So if everyone wants to cancel and no show 1 week, I'll have something to fall back on. If a part time job wanted to let me go, go ahead...Its not my only option

Get a job in retail. The base pay probably sucks, but if you work at a high end store the commissions could be attractive. It's also easier to get a part time situation in retail.

Thats what I'm thinking. Even though retail is quite scary to me...but I think the nicer clothing stores are more organized. Looking at it, the amount I'd need to make per week is relatively small. I could get by working partime someplace for less than $200 a week and use that towards the main expenses.

Isn't this a down time for retail though? When I was in High School, most stores went on hiring freezes after the holidays. I'm looking more toward office type jobs, but those are generally 9-5 40/hr a week and I don't have time (or desire) to invest in a job like that anymore.

Guest RyanCade

Mocha Mr. RyanCade will most likely be working in a chicken plant very soon. Not the dream job, but hey we do what we have to do. I have not worked for over three years, but I look forward to the structure and the satisfaction and gratitude that comes with earning an honest biweekly paycheck. If you pray you might try that and something will come along. Best of luck to you, I hope your financial situation improves.

lol, the other day I was looking at positions open for snow plowers. If I had the license, I probabaly wouldn't mind. I'm losing to the snow really bad in my little 4 banger lol. It'd be nice to get the upper hand!

"MiamiLooker" gave good advice by suggesting a temp agency. When I graduated from college with zero experience, that's what I did. I worked for at least 8 - 10 different companies; one or two kept me on for even 6 months because I was a fast typist (we had typewriters back then....). I was able to list those firms as references when later on I hunted for a full-time job in publishing.

If you do choose to go to a temp agency, don't get discouraged at first. I remember meeting some snarky, snippy people who were the administrative staff. After I became a regular, everything was fine. Best of luck, really.

Hmmm - I've talked to a few escorts about other things they do do make money, and everyone seems to gravitate toward work that is very flexible. One is a web designer which requires training but can be done anytime as long as deadlines are met. (I think we does work on escort web-sites among other things.) One I know is a dog walker, several are personal trainers (and advertise as such). I know one who makes good money selling stuff on e-bay.
