DETROIT'S GOLD COAST - now 21 and up

They use to let everyone 18+ into the club, and often it was more fun hitting on the clientelle than the dancers. Unfortunately, now the Gold Coast has changed their rules as of this Spring.

 

Now everyone has to be 21+ to get in.

A big let down for twink lovers.

 

I dont see the logic, as every other gay club in Michigan is 18+.

I remember bringing "friends" who were younger into the club several years ago with no problem.

 

Anywayz, I think Menjos is a better bet for twink lovers.. As the Gold Coast has really gone down hill in the quality and value of their dancers.

I was at the Gold Coast on a Sunday in December. There were about 8 dancers....mostly skinny twink types. Not my thing. I am more into the muscle guys. Unfortunately that night, there really was not much available for my taste. I have been there when there were great muscle guys available like Jeremy (now dancing at Richard's in Atlanta) and Knight. I get to Club Gold Coast 3-5 times per year. It is really hit and miss. Some nights, they have some really hot muscle dudes. Other nights it is pretty much just twink types. Wish they could be more consistent on their offerings there. Has anyone been at the strip club across the river in Windsor.....2012 I think?

I went on a Wednesday , and there were literally only 4 dancers that night. Absolutely dreadful. And just because a dancer is skinny, it doesnt make them a twink.

There are so many "twink" wannabee dancers at Gold Coast who are pushing 30.

 

That's what I miss about Montreal. At least Taboo had some really skinny twink dancers. If all Montreal had to offer was "Stcok" type dancers I would never bother to visit, but to each his own.

 

Legends is equally dreadful. They usually have about 4 local dancers wh oarent anything special. No twinks or muscle gods. Just nerds ,geeks ,and a couple toned older guys in their 40's.

Perhaps my understanding of what is a "twink" is not accurate. I always assumed that a twink was a male, under 30, skinny, and girlish. Kind of the types that danced at Taboo in Montreal. Is that not correct?

More BAD news. Now everyone has to pay for 2 drinks before they are allowed to have lap dances at the Gold Coast. This place really sucks.

 

1. 21+ means no hot twink customers.

2. Mandatory $3 valet parking (plus they expect tip).

3. $3 - $5 cover charge depending on the day.

4. $20 lap dances that last about 2 minutes and really suck.

5. $4 soda pop

 

6. You now have to purchase 2 drinks for EACH and EVERY dancer you chose to have a lap dance with. One drink for yourself and one drink for the current dancer you're taking back. If you don't buy the FORCED upon MANDATORY drinks, then you wont be able to get a single lap dance.

 

Even if you decide just to get only one lap dance, it will cost you $20 plus the 2 drinks for a 2 minute God-awful lapdance. And the dancers told me they wont do anything "good" unless you spend close to $100.

 

I spent the $100, which only lasted about 10 minutes, and the guy just bobbed up-and-down on my lap and did lame stuff.

 

Man how I miss the days when lap dances were only $9 at Club Taboo, with no cover or valet charges. You could do so much more back then, and it was expected. The drinks were reasonable and the dancers were hot. That was about ten years ago.

 

I swear to God, the Gold Coast was half empty with only 5 dancers that were very ordinary. I would have been better off going to my local mall and flirting with the boys in the food court than wasting $115 at the Gold Coast. Seriously, just to watch a lame drag-queen "MC" which I hate, and have a dancer I'm not really even attracted to "bob up-and-down" for 10 minutes on my lap?

 

I could have had "full service" with an escort for almost the same price.

 

I will never go to the Gold Coast again. Oh yeah, and the bar hops never stop pressuring you to buy drinks, even though you paid a cover charge to get in. Very unpleasant.

 

It's analogous to when you visit an expensive restaurant, where you just spent $120, and the food was terrible. You feel you would have been better off just getting a McDonalds Happy Meal in the first place instead.

 

I would have been a lot happier just staying home and j/o to gay porn.

Sounds like you need to choose your guys more carefully. I am always clear with the guys on my expectations before going to the back. Also, it is best to go early (right when the dancers start dancing) to be able to get some privacy in the back. The guys are more playful when no-one else is back there. Forget the back area on a Friday or Saturday night from 11:00pm on. Its too crowded and there is no privacy.

 

Regarding the prices, if you want to play you have to pay. I never go into a strip club with less than $500 in my pocket.....regardless of the city. I will spend the whole thing or only $15 (on drinks) depending on what is available at the club. The last two visits to Gold Coast, I spent only $15 on drinks and never went in the back. Having said all that, I do not begrudge the club from wanting to make money via cover charge and minimum consumption.

 

Regarding the quality of the guys, I agree with you that it has not been great lately. You and I do not have the same taste in men.....but it seems neither of us has found what we like recently at the Gold Coast.

Right, but there weren't any hot dancers for me to "choose" from. I was not attracted to any of them. I guess I should have just left, but it's kinda like being at the casino, sometimes you just dont know when to leave. I dont believe in the theory "if you wanna pay you have to play." I use to be able to get with guys for a pack of cigarettes, or $10 - $20. It all deopends on the circumstances. Going to a strip club with $500? I'm not fortunate enough to be in that position. Although a twink at the Gold Coast from last Spring offered to bang me in the back room for only 50.

 

Anyways, many on this message board have complained about so-called "mandatory drink minimum's" where they have to "nurse their drink" in order to not be harassed into being forced to purchasing several more drinks. Not pleasant! And cover charges are alright on the weekends if the club is packed with hot dancers, but it's not ok when the club only has 4 dancers.

 

If I had 500 i would probably hire a reviewed escort, or become a sugar daddy with a regular. But to each his own.

 

Clubs didn't charge cover or drink minimum's, and had reasonable lap dances around $10 back in the day and were thriving. A lot of dancers today complain that nobody is taking them in the back room at $20 per dance. it's a rip off. This topic has been discussed on the message board many times.

 

And now to force an additional 2 drinks on the customer before they can even have a single lap dance is ridiculous. Clubs should make a profit on the quality of their dancers and atmosphere, not on their insane drink prices, forced drinks, and cover charges.

 

It's almost 2011 for God sakes. With mypsace and facebook, craigslist, rentboy, men4rentnow, canadianmale, americanmale.net, etc. etc. etc. there are many more options for a good time.

 

Strip clubs need to get it together.

Well, you and I do agree on one thing......which is that Gold Coast is not drawing very hot dancers lately (whether they be twinks or muscleheads). They do need to really pick up their game. Mid week used to be decent but now they have a very poor selection of dancers when it is not Friday or Saturday night. I remember some Sundays there a number of years ago when they would have 10-12 dancers and half of them were really HOT. No longer. And there is no shortage of good looking guys in Michigan to choose from. This is evidenced by the number of dancers working at SR in Atlanta that are from Michigan. Anyway, I don't really know who is managing the Gold Coast, but I would argue that they need a real shake up there. It has the potential to be very good and draw folks from outside of Michigan (at least to some degree). The "fun" in the backroom is similar to Montreal and there just are not many clubs in the US where that is available. Bottom line is that if they don't get better dancer talent in there, the business is just going to continue sliding downhill. Customers will come and spend when there is something worth seeing and spending money on. Period.

 

Regarding having to "pay to play", I couldn't disagree with you more. In this world, I do believe that 98% of the time you do get what you pay for. Very rarely there is a bargain out there. I am sure there are some crack *****s that will trick for $20 and a pack of cigarettes but I can assure you that you will never see them with me.

 

Bottom line is that the club is not pulling in the hot dancers right now and they need to sort that out. All the other issues become secondary if there is nothing there worth looking at. Gold Coast are you listening??

Actually they're not escorts, dancers, or crack head prostitutes. They are simply people I befriend on Facebook, Myspace, Gay.com, or even the local mall. We chat and I eventually ask them in a friendly manner if they would like a "sugar daddy." You'd be surprised what people are willing t odo for a $100 pair of jeans at Hollister.

 

Anyways, gay or straight, you would be surprised how many hott guys I am able to spoil for a fraction of the cost of a "professional" escort. For me , thats part of the high. I get way more than what I paid for, and I made a friend.

I was at the Gold Coast Friday nite and it was its usual dreadful self. Only a couple dansers and a handful of customers. I dont know why I even bother to frequent this hole in the wall establishment anymore. Since I live less than 45 minutes away, i suppose it's a "close" venue.

 

This place feels like it's about to shut down at any moment. I much prefer going to Menjos. Even Club Triangle in Flint has better variety of twinks. I spent 100 just to play wit ha strippers ass. As mentioned earlier by many posters, for that price yo ucan almost get full service from an escort.

 

Michigan, and Detroit especially, has one of the biggest unemployment rates in the country, yet the Gold Coast charges insane prices for drinks, dances, cover, valet, and mandaory 2-drinks before taking an ydancer i nthe back room.

 

I feel nickled-and-dimed and harassed to purchasse drinks all nite by the bartneders. Not a pleasant atmospher, and certainly no twinks to select from. Buyer beware, I wouldnt go to the Gold Coast with great expectations. You'd be better off finding someone online.

True I have complained about lack of hot dudes.......but most my visits to the club recently had been on Sunday thru Thursday last year. I really wasn't sure how Fri/Sat were. On my most recent visit, I had the opportunity to go on a Saturday night. I decided to go and see if it was better than weeknights... and I was quite happy with the Muscle offerings. As a result, I returned the next day - Sunday. Again I was happy. OK they were not there in Montreal numbers, but both nights there were at least 3 to choose from. Decent for Detroit.

 

From the beginning, my sole concern with Gold Coast in 2010 was the lack of quality guys dancing. Whilst you had this concern as well, you had other issues mostly related to the cost (valet parking, cover charge, drink minimum, etc). Therefore my impression has been that your issues were much broader than mine. I'm not trying to boast, but I really don't care about the cost involved providing the quality is there.

 

Whilst I had a decent time there on my last visit, I do still believe that Gold Coast needs a shake-up.....they need to get away from the drag crap (except for maybe one night a week). If they would only focus on getting and keeping the quality talent, I think they could turn it into a decent business. As far as I know, it is the most liberal club for back room dances in the midwest.

 

My formula for success there would be:

 

* Club closed on Monday (and maybe Tuesday).

* Drag event on Tuesday or Wednesday.

* Hot selection of great dancers 5 nights a week.

* Early program on Sundays starting at 6:00pm. People will party on Sunday

if they can get home at a decent hour to start work on Mondays

* Once above is achieved, advertise in Cleveland, Indianapolis, Chicago, Cincinatti

gay rags in addition to the Detroit rags. Pull people in from other areas.

However, only start promoting it once you get the dancer talent normalized....

which means consistently good.

Plus, the Gold Coast is located in one of the worst areas of Detroit. A customer got shot dead in the parking lot of the Gold Coast a couple years ago. I certainly wouldnt want to get a flat tire anywhere near the Gold Coast.

 

For now, I'm saving my money for a trip to Montreal this summer to visit Club Taboo in June, and also maybe a trip to Ft. Lauderdale Florida this Spring.

The area where GC is located is indeed bad....it was already a bad area the first time I set foot in the place 25-27 years ago. Nothing new there. For that reason I am happy they have valet parking. Well worth the $3 + tip as far as I am concerned.

 

I'm sure you know that your best bet in ft lauderdale is Johnnys. Generally the dancers are twinks. Mostly Latin with a few blacks and whites as well. In South Forida, my club of preference is Twist in Miami Beach. More masculine muscle types but very few, if any, twinks. Would not be a good place for you.

I don't like strangers driving or touching my car. That's why I take someone else's car if know ahead of time that I will be forced to valet park.

 

I did, however, strike gold at the Gold Coast this Friday night. A twink was visiting from out of town this weekend. It was awesome!

 

But like i mentioned earlier, it's like going to a casino. If that twink wasnt there that night, the gold coast would have been just another awful evening of watching people snort coke in the bathrooms and being nickled-and-dimed watching nasty strippers on the pole.

 

I just happened to get lucky Friday, like i do every once in a while at the casino sometimes. Buyer beware.

 

And I've decided to go to Toronto this Spring instead of visiting Montreal or Ft. Lauderdale. Toronto has lots of skinny white twink boys on the streets, and clubs. Plus, it's only a 4-hour drive.
