They charge me $25 for three months with auto-rebill, but then their third-party payment processor (alertpay, who aspires to be paypal, which to me is like aspiring to be the russian mob) puts it through as a cash transaction so my credit card slaps on a $10 cash advance fee each time. Then for reasons I don't fully understand, the following month there's another small finance charge to cover the minimum interest due for the $25 advance, so it ends up being around $12 a month. I hate how convoluted they make it (and just about every other aspect of how they run their pro ads), but it generates enough biz to make it worthwhile.

I assume such mundane shop talk is appropriate to this forum, btw.

Kevin -- actually to clients like me it really is fascinating because I'd be interested in knowing what you guys have to spend on advertising on sites like A4A, M4RN, RB, and RM. I don't think we clients think about it very much and it might be useful to have a brief tutorial for us hiring boys to know what some of these expenses you guys have to bear. So if you wouldn't mind, could you expand it to discuss the other sites as well. What do they charge you per month, or is it per ad? How long does each ad stay up at what rate? Where are you located and what medium provides you the biggest bang for your advertising buck where you are.

So any of our escorts out there willing to share some of the "behind the scenes" magic?

A4A $30

RM $15 (basic)

M4RN $45 (basic)

RB $40 (basic)

We are billed for a full 30 days. So if I put up an ad on Dec 15 I wont be billed again till Jan 15. RB charges extra for travel ads and it is per day but I am not sure what extra is. Also depending on what city the rate on RB differs. Chicago is about $40 but Seattle is $30 for the basic plan. All the site listed except for A4A charge more for premiums which will put your ad closer to the top. Depending how busy the site is with ads sometimes it isn't worth paying the extra imo like with RM. It's an awesome site, clean easy to navigate but just doesn't seem to have the gumph it should.

Hugs,

Greg

I tried an Adam4adam pro ad for 2 months as an experiment. I find that the majority of its' users are involved in drugs and that here is a tremendous amount of confusion posting on a hook up site as a pro. I spent hours explaining to guys that I do not hook up off the book. Then they try to talk you down on price. Here was a normal scenario: client: You are SO hot! I must c u. me: ok, great, it is $200 for the hour. client: oh! well you really aren't hot........then they trash me cause I would not give it away. I have deleted A4A and will not use it again. In my opinion it is an unprofessional site, poorly run.. I would much prefer using Quility dedicated escort site like m4rn and rentboy..........for me I have found a great new venue in Craigslist "THERAPEUTIC SERVICES" Now, don't yall laugh at me! My dick is very therapeutic. Seriously, I advertise for massage therapy and since I was trained and liscened as atherapist it is above board. They meet me for a WAY overpriced massage and then stay on as escort clients. These type clients would never hire from rentboy or m4rn. That is how I reach alot of my married clients along with my personal training ads. To answer a question above I would say my ad budget per month is about $150. Hope everyone has a nice powerful orgasm or 5 today! http://www.rentboy.com/mikey9nola1

I had more massage clients from the therapeutic section on the craiglist than any site i ever advertised on. however because it was the therapeutic section i only offered therapeutic massage from that ad. I always asked people when they called where did they see the ad so i would know.

I have tried the A4A experiment. It does work sometimes but it proves to be more headache than it is worth -- that was at $10/month. I refuse to waste $30/month on guys who want to haggle and then have to deal with all the hate messages from those that either don't approve or don't want to pay.

Rentmen is $15-$20/month but offers free time if you post videos. I find clients are more willing to hire if you have videos up -- even if I'm just sitting on the bed talking. The latest video is a solo shower scene. ;-)

Men4RentNow requires more than $45/month to really work in larger cities that have more active and expired ads. I find I have to use the Platinum level to get noticed so it's $100/month.

Rentboy is once again proving to be a waste in Atlanta. I received a free month from Rentboy because they noticed I've been advertising with Rentmen. So I gave them a second chance. I've only had one direct inquiry through Rentboy this month. Rentboy's rates vary by cities. Atlanta has a basic rate of only $29/month.

My monthly total ranges from $100 to $150 for advertising.

Hey Greg;

Thanks for the tip on A4A! I basically stayed with them because of the low fee & it was an easy way to reach more people when I traveled. (In Vegas, it's an ABSOLUTE waste....just email tag & insults).

My budget for advertising is also about $100-$150 a month depending on travel ads & length of stay. (As of right now. I'm doing just basic & classics ads, as there are usually just around 60 or so guys on Rentboy & about 100 plus on Rentmen).

Thanks for asking. If it's minutia you want...

I pay Rentboy $300 a month for page one placement in NYC. That site alone generates more than half my biz.

Men4RentNow (yech, yech) gets $50 each month because I find the more expensive placement not worthwhile. (You can pretty much extrapolate that statement to the entire site, fwiw.) It does however generate 6% of my biz.

Rentmen gets $10 a month to generate 3% of my business (actually a bigger bang for the buck than rentboy).

Adam4adam gets $12 for 25%, but that data is highly skewed by one very large client.

Clients accounting for 6% of revenue referred only to my reviews on this site, and of course it's free. (Thanks, Dadddy!)

I pay another $10 a month to host LaterSlater.com. Clients accounting for 1% of my revenue cite that site as their lead, which I don't understand because you don't simply stumble across it.

I think of daddys and LaterSlater as being add-ons; they work in combination with ads placed on the other sites.

Last time I ran a print ad here in NYC it cost either three or four hundred and generated some business but far more "I'll give you twenty dollars to suck you off" calls at 4 a.m.

I spend a total of 340 dollars a month on advertising. It's 300 for Platinum placement on Rentboy, and another 40 for a classic ad on men for rent.

I never really used adam for adam as a professional site, although I do have a regular ad on there, and sometimes guys will message me saying they have seen my ad on rentboy, etc.

I've found that in NYC rentboy generates the most business, while in other cities it's men4rentnow.com.

I was surprised of the huge increase for the A4A pro ad. I used to pay $25 for three months. Though I didn't get many clients from there, I could justify paying the $25. I still haven't renewed, I'm not sure about the new rate of $75 for three months. As Mikey9nola mentioned, It's more of a hook-up site. Guys there don't really understand that much about escorts and for some reason think paying doesn't apply to them and you should want to have sex with them for free. When you decline, they then get nasty with you

Rentboy is once again proving to be a waste in Atlanta.

Sp far I've tried rentboy in over a dozen cities and its all proven to be a waste. For one, it doesn't show up first in google...however I noticed that in the past few weeks lately that its showing in 4th place now.

Its sad because rentboy was the 1st escort site I signed up with 2 years ago. I had my 1st $200+ client within 24 hours. But now, its not proving to be useful anywhere. I paid a 1 month period and have yet to get that $30 back...

I tried an Adam4adam pro ad for 2 months as an experiment. I spent hours explaining to guys that I do not hook up off the book. Then they try to talk you down on price. for me I have found a great new venue in Craigslist "THERAPEUTIC SERVICES"

I seriously want to punch my friend (who isn't an escort) in the face because he swears up and down that men hit him up offering to pay him for sex everytime he signs on. Something like $50 for a blowjob. Yet this is the emails I get more often than not, reading from the bottom up:

him: free since im the one working lol

Me: Well thats my rate and Im used to getting that much. How much were you actually considering?

him: wow thats alot

me: yeah, can whip it out for you. Im willing to do it for (listed rate) this afternoon, are you interested?

Him: come to you to get on my knees are you ok with that??

Me: Hi, thanks for responding. Are you wanting to host or travel out?

Him: your one fine guy love it all would love to suck on that big hot cock today??

The thing I dislike about craiglist (again, another reason for my frustration with America) is they don't allow you to mention anything, and then there have been times they would reject my ad over and over again with no mention as to why. Sometimes holding up to $30 on my card. Thats too aggravating to be dealing with when Im already trying to get business going in the 1st place. And once they closed down the adult section, I didn't really find it to be worth it anymore. Alot of massage clients moved to MassageM4M and Masseurfinder anyway.

Guys there don't really understand that much about escorts and for some reason think paying doesn't apply to them and you should want to have sex with them for free.

Its a 'club' for gay men. How many of our clients are prowling the club on any given night (with the exception of dance bars). In addition, adam4adam is just as lowrent as craigslist was...except for there are even more flakes on adam.

Its hit and miss for me. Sometimes Its nice to be on it, other times I am writing letters to adam cursing them for not designing their 'pro' category correctly and not advising members against wasting our time...yet they tell US we can't email and solicit a client?

Alot of the issues on adam stem from the fact that they just slop up some category for escort, don't even allow an area to post rates, and people on there generally view us willing to take anything we can get and just doing it for the fuck of it. fucking fucks!
