You can't really be 100% sure that your client or escort is disease-free just because he says so or because he looks clean, or even because he shows you a piece of paper that indicates a negative HIV test and a negative STD panel. These things have a window within which they incubate in a new host, which can occur at any time between one STD/HIV test and the next. If you truly want to protect yourself and your clients then wrap it up. There are extremely sheer condoms that can be used for oral sex that don't feel or taste like latex. If you claim to play safe-only you should consider that unprotected oral sex is also unsafe sex.

As for HIV I tell clients and others you don't know your true status unless you test positive. Because of that window period before and after the test one doesn't know their true status. Just cause you tested neg in Dec doesn't mean you are still neg come Jan.

Hugs,

Greg

Getting the vaccine for hepatitis A is a waste of time and money. Hepatitis A is a very time limited bug. It gives you some nausea and diarrhea and then makes its way out of your system all on its on. It doesn't stay with you forever and attack your liver like hepatitis B &C

Well, I have to disagree with you there. I caught HAV in my early 20s before I was aware there was a vaccine. Turned me yellow, sick as a dog, barely able to take care of myself, off work for 2 weeks: not pleasant. I gave my doctor hell for not pro-actively vaccinating me and would advise everyone to get the combined vaccine.

There are also occasional cases of massive liver failure from hepatitis A resulting in death. Now the books say that this is very rare, but if we as gay men may be at increased risk of hepatitis A because of our sexual practices, then I say get vaccinated against it. Oh and from personal experience I agree with Mark Gordon about hepatitis A not being trivial, when I was in college my father caught hepatitis A from a restaurant source. I think over 20 people became ill. The local health department figured out which restaurant. The restaurant paid for his doctor visits, and we never ate there again ( which was too bad because I really liked their teriyaki chicken). The restaurant closed shortly afterward althouh it may have been because the chain went out of business and not the hepatitis infection. In any case what's important to know is that my Dad was sick and off work for several weeks. If you had asked him at the time, or my mother who was taking care of him, I doubt either one would say it was a trivial illness.

Now in toddlers-- I believe under the age of 5-- it actually can be a trivial illness and they can sometimes be asymptomatic. In fact toddlers can pass it around in a daycare setting since they arent really particular where they 'do number 2', they can be asymptomatic and the adult workers can catch it and come down with the full loan illness.
