I've been more than curious lately to understand the process an escort goes through when deciding on a travel schedule. How does he determine what cities and what times of the year will provide him with enough clients to cover costs and make some money as well.

Living in Boston, we get a fair share of travelling guys here. Yet many escorts that travel do not include Boston...I am not posting to complain. I want to understand the thought process applied and perhaps why certain cities work well and others don't.

while you are at it..."Please Come to Boston" (shameless plug).

Rich -- as an addendum for my own edification and educaiton. The additional questions are what determines how long you will stay in a city, especially to one you have never been to before. And second, does the day of the week you are in that city affect your business there and does that play into your decisionmaking procss.?

And don't forget DC (but most of you don't)

Thanks for the shoutout! I keep procrastinating getting back to Fenway, being that Im so far west now :p

I look at various factors before visiting a city. I look at how many others are visibly advertising and the cost of lodging in the area. I also do a wikipedia check of every town as well to get a brief history and demographic lesson of the area, along with finding where the 'gayborhood is' (but I only use that as a beacon, as many towns...clients are located in various neighborhoods of a city)

Sometimes though, you just dont know until you actually get there. Sometimes going to a place with few or no advertising escorts can be an advantage. But it can also backfire since it could mean that there's no market for us. I've done a good job this year though, as every town I've visited has been succesful. Well, there was 1 time I went to Corpus Chrisit, TX on a 24 hour whim...but I was there for the surf and didn't mind not making any money LOL.

If it were up to me, I'd be touring throughout Europe...and once I'm done with the west coast, Im getting the very next flight on Lufthansa Airways

ha, this is a big question for me, too. how do i decide where to go?

i used to think everyplace was like dc. i am consistently booked in dc. i dont mean to sound haughty - its just what i used to think. now i realize though - i am very lucky in dc. for whatever reason(s) bookings for me here are such that i could stay in dc year round, and do just fine. but alas, free bird... i must be travelin' on... i've got the wanderlust... so, yep - - - i like to travel.

my buddy DavidSF showed me that the best way to pick a city is to get an anchor client there, so you're not going to be fucked (financially i mean). whereas i used to just pick cities based on where i wanted to go (ie, see some of my close friends in san francisco, hit lauderdale for the sunshine) now i'll head to a place if someone has hired me for an overnight, or 24, or 48 hours... and stay on, since i'm already there. this however still needs to be in a place i want to hang out in. sandusky, ohio just doesnt do it for me, sorry.

i'll also go somewhere if i've been asked to teach there. as some of you know, i was in vegas this summer because i was presenting some sessions at the desiree alliance, a sex workers conference. it made sense to advertise my services then, and yes, i got some jobs doing so, and a 24 hour hire too. i hadnt been to vegas before, so that was fun for me. and i met a girl i fell for (a fellow sex worker, based in NYC) so i'll be heading up to NY more often because of that. it all worked out well.

anyway, i'm getting off topic. the bottom line, for me at least, is financial. can i afford the cost of travel, and hotel, and every meal out, if i have no guaranteed bookings? unfortunately, it's a risk i'm not able to take anymore. but give me one client who wants to hire me for an extended appointment, and is covering my transport there - and i'm likely to stay on. good for the client (think of a restaurant that delivers, and i'm the meal - LOL); good for me (loving to travel to new places anyway); and hopefully good for the others in the locale (i guess i'm a breath of fresh air - um, i mean fresh meat).

there's that food/eating metaphor again!

still, i'll be the first to admit i don't have the travel thing nailed down yet. i've hit some places that were good, but others that were just meh. it's still a bit of a mystery to me.

Yeah, I should have told myself that before I went to Vegas LOL...but all the glitz just sucked me right in. I actually wanted to go anyway, but it'd be better with a group...but the whole idea of it being a sister city of South Beach Miami (my original homebase) is a misconception. Seems if you're not there to gamble, then its boring. I really can't recall seeing a single slot machine down on South Beach....

I think the Meh places are meh because the economy there sucks, or the market is too saturated to handle anyone else or both. So far; places I wont be running to again includes Atlanta, Houston, Vegas, Austin and Chicago are the places I've gone to so far that didn't cut it for me. And in each one, the people I actually did meet were from out of town. But it may or may not work for some.
