this is in tremendous contrast to the escort who chooses to put his face pic "out there." then, anyone who sees that pic can trace it back to the guy's site, or his posting on rentboy, or whatever. the connection is easy to make. and we all know that pics can be copied and sent around the world, literally in an instant.

 

i guess the crucial thing about partial face pics is, how revealing is partial?

When a Partial Picture Works

 

Sorry, William, but I have to disagree with you about the partial face pics when discretion is so important. IMHO, if you showed me a partial of someone I know, I'm sure I would be able to name him. I am pretty sure that even if I didn't know him, I would still be able to pick him out of a lineup.

 

Mind you, it's not that I don't like partials, especially smiling ones! I just don't think they're safe.

All I was saying in Point 2 was that "for kissers," a lower face picture would be useful---Point 2 had nothing to say on the "discretion" issue for the escort. So my suggestion stands: for kissers, a face picture is best, but if you cannot give us that, a lower face picture is second best.

 

My Point 1 dealt with the "discretion" issue---and my suggestion was that there is a continuum of risk-of-exposure: any picture of yourself risks exposing your identity; the escort has to figure out how much risk to take. (As we have learned in this board, some escorts manage the risk by simply posting pictures of other guys!) So a guy who cannot abide any risk of "exposure" should not use any pictures, or should use phony ones! I also agree with Rockin Dave that a lower face picture poses a much lower risk than a full face picture.

Hate to quibble, William, but I will. If the idea of discretion does not bear on Point 2, then why do you say, "if you cannot give us that"? Except for discretion, why would the escort need to limit himself to a partial? There would be no need to conceal the rest of his face. But I enthusiastically agree that we kissers need some kind of lip view if not the full kisser (pun intended).

 

At any rate, here's my main point: I believe that given a partial face shot, I could a) identify anyone I know, and b) pick an unknown out of a lineup. That's why, if I were an escort who needed to be discreet, I would never show anything above the traps.

Dave, I'm not quite sure what you're getting at here. The point I'm trying to make about identifying someone doesn't really have anything to do with their job description. In the case of the lineup, maybe the word "lineup" is a bad choice. I just mean that with a partial face shot, I think I could pick out the person from a group of people, known or unknown, escort or not, live or in other pictures. I wonder if there is research out there on this kind of thing.

 

Finally, just for example, if you could gather a group of men similar in build and facial structure to yourself, I think that, armed with your blogsite photos, I could pick you out. To me, this means that your partials "give you away." Personally, I think anything above the traps should be avoided. But then, I am paranoid beyond belief.

Makes no difference to me. I've never had any problems hiring escorts without face pics. In fact, the only two occasions I've hired escorts who seriously misrepresented their physical appearance were both men who included face pics in their ads. In one case the guy used three face pics--but they were very outdated (at least ten years old). In the other case, the guy's photos (including his face shot) had been evidently enhanced courtesy of photoshop.
