I recently got an email to vote for the Rentboy Hookies awards. Needless to say I have not been with all of them. Maybe 5 or 6. But I can tell you that one that is up for the best body looks nothing like his picture. One of the guys up for the best top will not top. Another, who only advertised for a short time on Rentboy and was not available then (when he did advertised) and is not available now. Even though we have exchanged emails. I looks to me like Rentboy would check out the finalists a little better. Thank goodness for the service Daddies provides to us guys who like the finer things in life.

PS: However, one of the guys nominated is beyond belief. I was disappointed he was nominated. I would like to keep him all to myself. Guess I am just a selfish guy.

Hookies!

Rentboy has been using alleged "Category Awards" for a long time.

Whether or not it really stirs any interest ($$) for the "Working Guys" who knows. Rentboy in the Past has asked some of those up for an "Award" to Show up and Parade around in their Undies for FREE! Of couse No or Few takers! :D

I doubt this form of Marketing grabs anyone around here, being as well informed as this crowd USUALLY is :D

Hookies farce

It seems this whole thing denigrates their brand. It is one thing to pick someone based on their ad and have it not work out; another to pick a dud based on what you assume is a broad customer endorsement. I have had a number of bad experiences with some of the nominees and cannot imagine how they were shortlisted.

This site is becoming more and more valuable as the best way to vet potential choices. Thanks to all those who take one for the team and take the time to share the good, bad and the ugly.

Indubidably! ;)

I am friends (not a client) of one of those nominated. He is not from NYC - visits - and found the entire thing a bit crazy. He went to a preview party or some such thing a few weeks back - found the experience a bit degrading and embarrassing. Now he is being coerced to showing up on the 19th - and wishes he could not, but fears ad backlash...

I did discover that the people at Rentboy are the ones who often write or heavily edit the ads -- which may explain why we here think some are copied -- they probably are... by the same Rentboy person taking the escort's info and inserting it... So maybe we should not immediately suspect the 'scort but the agency!!!

Are you suggesting that rentboy writes the ads for individual escorts? If so, what lead you to that discovery? I do not believe it does.

I don't know about writing the ADS But they sure donot Proof Read some of them. Although the "Stat Errors" etc are not as bad as they were at one time.

For what they charge the "Working Guys" the site should have Background Music to enhance the Visual & Reading Pleasure of the Clients! :D

Hookies ARE a farce. I have it on good authority that rentboy contacts supposed winners, asks them to show up to the ceremony and if they can't or won't show up, the award is given to someone else. Total bull.

Most of their 'winners' seem to be friends of the owners and employees. I guess it doesn't really matter, as I would never hire any of them, but it does make me chuckle that any of the escorts would ever be called 'the best' at whatever category they've won.

Kevin, I know that RENTBOY edits (*if not entirely writes) the ads a few escorts post - admittedly these are the foreign guys whose writing skills in English are limited, and in a way this is a service making it easier to understand what the escorts are advertising.

I know from first-hand experience (but no names) as one escort recently asked me to "correct" what was written, and I found it pretty darn hard. I asked him "Who wrote all this?" and he told me it was someone there when he and a friend went to pay up front for the ads. This is not said as a critiism - but the two wrote their ads the same day and were eerily almost exact (and they are NOT the same guy).

But on to the HOOKIES, I spoke later with the escorts on another occasion when I saw their photos at some previous HOOKIE award for NYC last month, and one told me how bad he felt at the way the entire evening went down, and the later questions the sponsors asked him for the upcoming March 19h show. Sounds just a bit conrived, and I too have doubts about itfrom the obvious scam of APOLLO 21.

Rentboy write ADS for the Working Guys? If that were the case they would be Paying alot more for the Pleasure of Advertising with them! :D

JT -- in a way.... maybe some of these innocents do pay more.

The Hookies is one way to see this -- There is (as mentioned above by others) some subtle pressure on guys who are nominated out of the clear blue to show up at a public party that some may really not wish to be a part of -- some may the fear their ad may never be "showcased" (eg pop up near the front of a city listing) or worse... just disappear. It may not be what RENTBOY does, but they do leave among some of the foreignors not so versed in English a distinct impression that the ads can be manipulated if they do not play along.

KNowing guys who have ads there - and some who afre here just visiting - they have commented on wondering how it is a guy gets his photo to pop p when they log on... while other's are relegated to the last page (and it could be purely coincidental, which I always assume). BUT they sense some kind of quid pro quo here.

I would never have ascribed to this until I saw the push for APOLLO 21 which is such an obvious scam in NYC -- why would RENTBOY get into this unless.... is this some kind of secret bastard younger brother organization???

  • 2 weeks later...

Well I can't honestly say that the awards are fixed. Maximum won again last night as "Best Agency" and we were definitely NOT contacted prior to the ceremony or offered any type of incentive to show up. I know that they appreciated the eye candy we brought along to accept the award for us, but as far as I can tell it was an honest win. I'd had my own thoughts about Apollo21, but I seriously don't think that they are associated with Rentboy in any way other than buying the space to advertise on that site. In the past I will admit that I found the winner of the Best Agency award to be questionable, but this is the first year that Maximum rallied our clients and actually asked people to vote if they were so inclined, so perhaps that is what made the difference. Anyway it's nice to win! Thanks to those of you who did vote for us.
