So I contacted a guy on Craigslist today and in reply received an email that said I had to be pre-clerared to make sure I was of legal age and not a cop. He sent me to a site that asks for my first and last name, zip code, and cell number. After that it promised to email the escort's phone number. I did not enter the information.

Has anyone heard of anything like this?

The escort is really cute, but I hate to risk some sort of scam or phishing.

Thoughts?

I have recently had similar experiences with CraigsList - except that I received initial emails purporting to answer my Personal ad and then when I responded, I received emails about going to another site & proving I didn't have a 'violent criminal record'. In both cases, I didn't even follow the link they provided. No way it was legit!

most males limit their screening to finalizing appointments on phone by the way of a unblocked number and a brief phone conversation, But very indebted screening is the normal practice for female providers some female providers even req place of employment.

Who's that knocking at my door?

I received a similar reply, however, mine insisted that he host because he lived in this "big house" that had a pool. He said the reason for asking me to sign up for an ID check was because he had been robbed by someone he met through craigslist. He sent a great photo, however, like you, I didn't bite.

The next thing you know....

First and last name, zip code and cell phone number? There is no legitimate way to verify anything with that unless it is a law enforcement agency. Stay far away.

The identity verifacation using a credit card was a scam I believe it found it's way to Daddy's

He may be receiving scary phone calls and worried about meeting peoples without documenting who he sees. I was worried for a long time due to prank calls at night saying the craziest things...

I would never, ever continue with an escort who wanted me to participate in any verification scheme. Life is too short and hiring an escort too unimportant to become involved in something that is likely to lead to no good end.

However, whenever we say "never, ever" to anything, there will sooner or later be an exception and there was one for me a year or so ago. I was in LA and interested in an escort out there. He wouldn't continue though until I passed his verification scheme. It was funny, though, because all he wanted to do was to ask me to pass a "gay test".

Having been out for 25 years, I was mortified at the possibility that I might fail! :p Fortunately, I passed his test and he turned out to be a nice guy and I enjoyed his company.

But going to some website and entering any kind of information there for verification? "Never, ever." ;)

Made it here or not, credit cards CANNOT be used for identity or age verification. There's a reason you have to show your driver's license at the liquor store.

Eh? Did he make you sing "Liza with a Z"? LOL

No, he had a series of questions. I forget what they were, although one of them had to do with Stonewall. He had chosen questions that he thought any gay man would be able to answer easily and that a police officer might have much more trouble with. I thought it was amusing and actually quite inventive. :)

Inventive on many levels. He got whatever "verification" he needed and in the same swell foop he got that awkward "getting to know you" first step out of the way. Shoved it right off a cliff before he ever met you.

That guy has skills with people.

I've gotten almost identical emails (yes more than once) as the one Cooper mentions here. Usually them come in reply to a craigslist posting.

His ID check required a credit card for verification - an obvious phish/scam.
