ffdave, there are literally dozens of threads on the board here regarding last-minute cancellations by either escorts or clients. But, having read your account, I have three questions/comments for your consideration:

1) From your story, there's no way the escort could have known about the extra effort you put in to keep the appointment (i.e. missing out on some overtime, not going to Zombieland etc.).

2) He may have texted rather than called because you told him you were attending an event before your meeting was to take place - so his motive could have been a desire to be discrete (which, as a client, is something I always appreciate in an escort), rather than the more obvious one of being unwilling to talk to you directly and avoid an unpleasant conversation. And unless you told him you 'hate the text thing', how would he know that you would view it as an inappropriate way to communicate with you?

3) Would you really have preferred to spend $1000 or more (AJ's posted overnight rate is between $800-1500) for an overnight meeting with an escort who's suddenly feeling sick?

As a client, I hate to be stood up too but in cases where the escort has suddenly cancelled due to health reasons, a careful consideration of the third point has usually led me to conclude it was probably for the best that the appointment not go through...

Are you 'wrong' to feel angry about this? Of course not. Would it be 'wrong' to get too worked up about it? Probably. My advice is that you either accept the escort's cancellation at face-value and try to reschedule or if you find you can't give up your resentment at his admittedly last-minute cancellation, then you should move on to another guy. After all, there is no shortage of hot guys in southern California for you to choose from if you think AJ's a flake... :D

Give him the benefit of doubt! Don't wait to follow-up, schedule another session ASAP. You should be able to tell from his response weather or not he is on the up-and-up.

You were wise to accept the cancellation. And I agree, give him the benefit of the doubt. After all, what if he had come down with a bout of the flu. You could have found yourself in a situation where you had to deal with his diarrhea. Wouldn't that be the shits?

Fast forward to now...I was about ready to head for his house, and just noticed a text on my phone (which arrived about 30 minutes ago that I didn't see) that said this: "Unfortunately I have to cancel. All of a sudden don't feel good & don't think it would be fair to you or me to meet in current condition. I hope that you will reconsider rescheduling. My sincere apologies."

Although I do forgive him, I'm just a little perturbed that I gave up some overtime today, and worked hard to keep my end of the appointment. I even turned down some other friends right before I saw the message who were going to see "Zombieland", which I wanted to see.

Although I will try to reschedule, am I wrong for feeling this way? What should I say to him next time I talk to him? (I hate the text thing most times.) Sure, maybe he "got sick", but I would have appreciated a phone call rather than a text.

I feel your pain there all too well... had a guy that I had some time with... but in the end he was slipped a "micky" at a party earlier that afternoon... NO - if he had not been well reviewed here I would have thought otherwise for sure...

PLEASE understand, first and foremost, that I am not questioning the veracity of the two posters who had difficulty connecting with A.J. Irons. It is a given that in the world of client/escort relations experiences can and do differ greatly.

I set up an appointment with A.J. a couple of months ago and it could NOT have been easier. He replied promptly to my emails and telephone calls. On the evening of our appointment we communicated frequently. He was extremely helpful in assisting me locate his apartment which is an enormous complex. A.J. even went so far as to come out onto the street and waved me down.

A.J. and I went out to dinner which turned out to be a great exercise in getting to know each other. After dinner we returned to his place for two hours of outstanding intense sex. I have been hiring escorts, with some frequency, for eight years and my experience with A.J. was amongst the best I have ever had. I wrote an extremely complimentary review that has been posted on this site.

If any of you guys are interested in getting together with him, in the future, I would suggest that you call him and confront him openly with your concerns. If you DO get together I guarantee you will have a great time.

...consummate professional...

I scheduled an appointment with AJ Irons to come spend my birthday with me in August of this year. About a week before AJ was to fly to Indianapolis, he called and unfortunately let me know that he was not going to be able to make it to Indianapolis for my birthday. He was very apologetic and sincere when he explained that he some personal issues going on in his life that would prevent him from coming. Was I happy about this? Not at all. I was sad and disappointment. AJ was going to my 35th Birthday present to myself. AJ offered to reimburse me for the cost of his airfare and a couple of other incidentals that I could not get my money back for. I was able to put the ticket that I purchased on hold for use at another time by virture of travel insurance. (Well worth the 16 dollars that I paid for the travel insurance.) I did not ask AJ to pay for the ticket. As it is on hold, I have a year to use the ticket and have every intention of using that ticket at a future date.

Long story short.... We were able to make plans easily and rescheduled my 3 day birthday celebration recently. I had an amazing time and AJ was well worth the wait. Did I like the fact that he had to cancel? No! But I understand that things happen and AJ made up for it. Even did a few extras that made everything right! ;-) AJ is the consummate professional and an amazing guy!
