MsGuy, you are rewriting what Merlin said. I know that his ultra conservative views turn off most of the people in the politics forum, so when he write something kinder we should be happy, but he didn't say what you say he said.

"you should assume that the one you are with is positive, and protect yourself accordingly. You don't want to spend the next few months worrying if you slipped up. "Safer sex", in my opinion, includes avoidng guys who you know or suspect may be positive."

A few thoughts:

You have isolated this qoute from its context (& clipped off the introductory phrases of the 1st sentence). Fairly read, Merlin is addressing an inexperienced guy who he suspects may find it difficult to assert himself enough with an escort to maintain safe limits. Reading the paragraph as a whole, I see the advice as limited to the wonderfully wacky world of escorting and not necessarily intended to apply to personal relationships.

If it's your intent to draw attention to the widespread problem of gays shunning guys that are suspected of being POZ, go for it. That kind of fear driven behavior is one of the most cruel & least necessary byproducts of the plague. Please keep in mind though that many of my generation were left shell shocked by the epidemic and are coping as best we can with its psychological aftermath. A little compassion goes a long way on both sides of this problem; HIV damaged even those of us who remained serum negative.

Guest Merlin

Thanks Msguy, but this has been discussed before. My position is not limited to new clients. Everone should practice "safe sex", but accidents happen and therefore it is safer still to avoid sex with those known to be positive, and safer still to avoid those whom you suspect to be positive.

Some on the board disagree, but are not content to disagree and must cloud the issue with irrelevancies, such as, "there is no way to always know who is positive".

Everyone must decide his own level of risk tolerance, but no one should feel a social obligation to have sex with those who are known or suspected to be positive.

. Escorts meet a lot of men, and while I believe most are healthy, as always, you should assume that the one you are with is positive, and protect yourself accordingly. You don't want to spend the next few months worrying if you slipped up.

Merlin2-- While that is a nice thought, I wonder how accurate it is.

I am not usually very confrontational on this Board. I will also say that most likely unless you are extremely lucky--a large proportion of the people on this Board who hire frequently have been with an escort who is positive--even if the escort might not know it at the time. That being said I totally agree with Merlin2.
