Craigslist Changes: Where did the clients go?

While it's irrelevant whether or not this was their intention, it seems to me that the last two sets of changes have been not-so-gradually sending clients and potential clients away from the site. I believe this has affected my business in a big way. (Last October I had more appointments then I could keep... I was actually turning down business... then on the night after Craigslist announced their "crackdown" my business EVAPORATED!

Look: I"m sure there is no single factor that's slowing things down for me, but Craiglist has always been a significant source of income for me. They wanna drive away the escorts and clients... fine! But I don't know where else to post for clients? I left A4A because I got zero business and lots of hate mail, and I have been on Rentboy, Rentmen, and Men for Rent now for over a year.

Any suggestions of where to post??

thanks in advance

You've hit the big ones. There are scores of third tier sites, none of which I'd recommend. Depending on your locale you can also try a print ad, but I find that usually fares about as well as your a4a experiences.

Unrelatedly, I think the preferred term might be "clients".

thanks for both pieces of advice

Wouldn't it be great if all the clients went en masse to some other site? And we knew what it was?

Didn't I read a while back that craigslist started the "erotic services" section because so many professionals were trolling for business in "casual encounters"? If that's true, I'd expect people to start looking in "casual encounters" again.

"Adult services" in my local craigslist now has m4m, w4m, etc. categories, just like the old "erotic services". And some of the erotic masseurs from the old section have turned up there.

At the present time, escorts seem to be listing in craigslist under "adult service" and you type in m4m. They of course talk about massage with a few code words: fun, sensual, massage and more, etc.

I guess I didn't frame the question correctly...

My point is that with all it's announcements of changes and "cooperating with the authorities", Craigslist seems to have scared away a good percentage of the (legions) of potential clients who used to "shop" there.

I was wondering if a) this hypothesis reflects anyone else's experience and b) if anyone has any suggestions of where those potential clients might currently be looking?

I noticed that in Vancouver,Ca CL still listed "Erotic" as a category. So can someone tell me how this change from Erotic to Adult classifications is going to appease the attorney generals of all the states that were protesting if they list the same sort of ads--ie, "a rose by any other name..."

Maybe they have an arrangement whereby if it is the police operating a sting, they will OK the ad.

I look elsewhere

Well, I am a John, or client and I have to say that I stopped looking at CL because of the crackdown. Back to the old sites I guess. Somehow this will sort out because the need ain't goin' nowhere. Hang in there

Sad.... seems Craigslist are even targeting the fully legit Therapists now.

A couple of friends who used to post on craigslist have complained since yesterday, they now charge $10 per ad with a $5 renew if approved. That is like $120 a month. Plus some of his links can't be posted for his pictures sites cause they are consider commercial links!

From what a couple said... they are going to the Craigslist section for Travel or Beauty Services as well in Craigslist since that is still free, but no links.

Also you could try other site... I know MaleMassageList.com is free but for theraputic ads only. MassageM4M.com takes all, and then there are the classifieds like backpage.com you could try.

Wish you the best of luck... you can always try and create your own homepage and then see what happens?

i paid 10.00 ran my massage ad for 7 days then renewed for 5.00 for the next 7 days. there's no reason to have too put a new ad up every single day. I'm booked solid everyday doing more money now than b4 the cl changes. I have a 200.00 amonth advertising budget and only about 40.00 is spent advertising on the cl the rest goes to a number of other sites.

one thing I don"t like is allot of sensual and erotic masseurs have started posting under the therapeutic section too avoid the 10.00 charge thats in the adult section. that's not fair too those who only do therapeutic work and its driven allot of those people away. If a persons to damn cheap to pay the 10 bucks and advertise in the proper place then its time to go out of business.
