How does rentboy placement work?

Can someone explain how Rentboy ad placement works.

I check the Chicago listings every couple days just to see who's new (limit by date), and every single time the same person is at the top of the list.

I can understand that he stays "new" by updating the ad, but also on top every time? If you pay more are you guaranteed top billing? Just too much of a coincidence that he's always first.

More than you wanted to know, I'm sure:

There are four tiers to rentboy ads: platinum ads are always listed on page one, gold will always appear on pages 2 & 3, basic ads appear on pages four on. Ads are displayed in random order within their tier. Additionally, two diamond ads are auctioned off every month (ebay style) with those ads appearing on the top of page one. In cities which don't necessarily sell out an entire tier, the same concept holds but a given tier may not take up its entire allotted page range. Once an advertiser has a platinum ad (for example) it's his to keep; only diamond ads change monthly.

In NYC a platinum ad (on the rare occasions that one is available) goes for $300 per month.

Hope this answers your question.

Hmmm,

This is the guy who keeps popping up on the top for me:

Andrew James is currently in London, and I trust when he'll be back in the US you'll see his ad on the first page on Rentboy/Chicago. In the meantime you can check him out here:

I know it sounds like a cliche, but in his case the pictures do not do him justice.

Cheers,

Thanks for the plug

Again Steven, Thank you.

I will be flying into Chicago on May 19, I will turn the Ad on before I arrive, but I am sure the guys in Chicago would tire of seeing my ad for the 20 days before I got there.

You will always see the Diamond ad or ads first on Rentboy, followed by the platinum ads, then gold and finally classic ads. Escorts pay extra to be listed near the top. In some cities (NYC) the upper tier ads are not available so you to see anyone new you have to wade back to the classic ads, as the guys who have the platinum and gold ads have set them to auto-renew, and who can blame them.

On Rentmen and GayRomeo the ads are two tiered with more expensive ads near the front, but within the tiers the most recently logged in are placed first, so you can see who is active on the site.

Cheers

Andrew

For a site that makes soooo much money, I'm amazed that rentboy.com sucks as bad as it does....and that their closest competitor is m4rn...which is HORRRIBLE.

Do any of you 'oldtimers' know - did Daddy (or Daddy's friends) ever think of an escort site? Seems like a perfect fit with this review/forum site.

It definitely has (sometimes severe) server issues. What else sucks about it? Let's be constructive here fellas, and see what we can't get fixed.

I think it's a good idea to keep reviews separate from advertising, otherwise there's a conflict of interest. That's why Consumer Reports doesn't take ads.

Also, Rentboy runs strictly on a database platform where as users (escorts) update their add with whatever changes they see fit, the database acts accordingly and throws that ad to the top of the list in the tier they've purchased at. I've noticed this on a lot of websites which is great but at the same time, requires continual updates on a daily basis or more of than that depending on how much coverage one is wanting.

You think the most recently edited ads appear at the top of their tier? That's not what I've observed. I may not make a change to my add for weeks but notice it appears in seemingly random order, sometimes at the very top, at various points throughout each day.

Escort pics sometimes only load partway (you see a fraction of the pic because not all of the file comes across). Whatever is causing this, rentboy could and should fix it. I note that all the other images on the page come across more reliably, including (sadly) the animated ads for all the other stuff that isn't what I go to the site for.

Web pages load more slowly and are more of a pain to read when they display a pile of stuff alongside their main subject matter. I know it's all about commerce, and I know it's a pipe dream to hope rentboy would just show me the escort ads and not all the rest of the junk being offered, but you asked what else sucks about the site.

RB is way over priced and offers too much trash on the pages. I understand that they need to make money but come on $300 or maybe a little less for top placement? Can we say highway robbery? Take off most of that crap advert charge a decent price for top placement, don't charge extra for a travel ad and I'd consider re advertising but till then Adadm4Adam and RentMen get my money.

Hugs,

Greg

Does Men4Rent have the same system? I ask because no matter what time of day I go onto that site this guy is always at the top (even though he's not even in DC):

It gets a bit tiresome after a while, especially since you can't place a review on that site about him. What's up with that?

That happens to me, too. I think that's part of what I mean by server issues. I'll keep bitching at them about it.

At least here in NYC it's hard to argue they should lower the price when each slot is full and there's a line forming to replace those who are there now. I do notice they have lowered the top-tier price in Miami and SF. That's supply and demand.

In most other cities, there's no need for a platinum ad. A gold or even a basic ad gets on the first page in most locales.

Not entirely. M4RN does have a tier system as well, but it lists those who have recently logged onto their account before those who have not. I believe the ads are then sorted by tier.

...especially since you can't place a review on that site about him. What's up with that?

M4RN allows the escort the option having reviews published or not and also allows him to delete unfavorable reviews. (So don't fret, if he did have reviews, they'd all be glowing. Sorta like Lake Wobegon, where all the children are above average.) This is a great example of why advertising and reviews need to be run by separate groups.

Thanks, Kevin. I noticed there was another guy advertising in DC, and although the reviewer seemed to like the guy, he only gave him 2 stars. The escort has since deleted that particular review.

The Rentboy REVIEWS of course can be even more BOGUS than some Daddy Reviews! :D

You could at one time PAY "of course" to Block your AD without losing your SPACE on the First Page, when you were TAKING TIME OFF.

Whether that can still be done I don't know! BUT as the Great Donald Trump says.".It takes Money to make Money in NYC"! So keep shelling out the $$ for these ADS Boys! ;)

One thing that I have been doing for months is make a simple edit to my profile on that site and then I will go from whatever page I was on to the front page. But, others are also aware of this and make edits as well and you can tell who usually makes the most because they typically appear the most. But, I could be wrong. :)
