BUDDIES a.k.a. STELLAS in nyc...R.I.P.

I was at La Fleur's on Sunday evening when someone came into the bar and said that Buddies had closed its doors for the last time. I didn't pay too much attention to this but when I went by on Monday evening around 10:30 or so the front was pulled down and shuttered.

 

Because Cathy was too busy or too lazy or too whatever, she just waited too damn long to reopen. She was trying to make it much more upper class, preventing some of the previous dancers from returning, no more hustlers, etc. and no one was interested. I only went once, and although I had a good time that evening (dancer competition night which went on forever because she wanted the customers to stay and drink but most had left before the contest was over) I never went back. It wasn't the same. My favorite dancer/hustler hang out is La Fleur's. It's too bad though, New York really could use another Stella's...but make it a Stella's, not a Buddie's.
