I have a pop up blocker but two sites in particular http://www.pollstar.com and http://www.travelocity.com I get pop ups. Whats up with that? I don't have it set up to allow pop ups from either site.

Hugs,

Greg

I'm feeling restless. Where should I travel to?

I use Travelocity too.

Technically speaking, those are NOT pop-ups. They are pop-unders. They show up behind the active window, but they're there waiting just the same.

I'm not sure why or how they skirt popup blockers, but they do. I haven't been disconvenienced enough to invest any real energy into figuring it out. I just close the Netflix ad and move on. (And honestly, I blame Netflix more than Travelocity.)

The only way that kind of viral advertising will truly stop is if people stop using the companies that do that kind of viral advertising.

Who here is ready to stop using Netflix? x(

Deej has it right, these sound like pop unders and they use pop up blockers to place their ad. When the blocker stops the initital ad from popping up on your screen the pop under ad uses the split fraction of a second to slip under the fence so to speak.

I find these the most annoying of all the internet ads out there. Obviously they work otherwise the advertisers would not use them. Besides Netflix, American Express uses these a lot as do a large number of other companies.

And no doubt if a pop under blocker was created to stop these annoyances someone out there would find a way circumvent that block as well. x(
