Missing Text - Mac OS X

For any Mac OS X users who are having the mysterious disappearing text problem (messages have missing words which appear if you click on them, causing other words to disappear!) I've found a possible solution on the Mac support site.

 

In Internet Explorer preferences, go to Interface Extras in the Web Browser section. Un-check "Enable Quartz text smoothing." This option may exist in the preference section of other programs where this occurs. For me, it's in any browser, but I haven't had a chance to go into them yet to see if that feature can be turned off in their preferences. According to the discussions on the Mac site, this problem crops up in a lot of Microsoft Programs, but it mustn't be limited to them, because I get it in Netscape, too. Hope this is helpful to someone!
