I can remember when two or three hustlers were on every corner for a 10 block square here in Phoenix. That was about the only way to secure the services of a boy toy or stud toy. Now you would be lucky to see a "cracked" up old queen plying her wares without much gusto. With the arrival of the web, it seems that another long cherished institution, just as Route 66, may soon all but disappear. I understand Santa Monica Blvd in lala land has also experienced a swan song. I still cherish the sight of a famous actor picking up a hunk, and not being very discrete about it.

The good old days in Lala land

I know how you feel. Santa Monica is indeed deserted 99% of the time. When I came here in '78 I would come home from the studio (recording studio--I'm was producing dance music then), I could grab someone fun on the way home!

Small world department (for me anyway). I used to always pick up someone that had previously been with Bob Estes (he produced Cher's "Take Me Home" among many other classics). That always brought a laff or two especially when Bob and I would run into each other.

Also, I picked up a few actors who were just starting out. One in particular was Nick Corri, not a major name, but a gorgeous latin stud. His biggest role to date was playing the son of the murderer on the first season of "Murder One."

He was a sweetheart when I met him. Not really into what he was doing, but nice anyway, and desperate for $$$ at the time. Another coincident: he had just done a role on the TV version of "Fame" as Coco's boyfriend and I had just finished mixing their "Fame Live on Tour" album.

Now, it's the web... a whole new world!

Is this the Bob Estes of Melrose Place (I think) and Silk something-or-other? He's someone I'd like to pick up!

Great idea - hope others that live in more civilized parts of the country than I do can provide current info. Remember the good 'ol days on Jackson & Fitzhugh Streets in Dallas? Of course, those were also the days when I had the balls to carry a gun in my car ...

Eric, yes. Last month he had an ad in Frontiers, and the picture was wonderful. Yes, more mature, but looking good. I was too crazed during the holidays to try to hook up, but I plan on going up to San Francisco and will DEFINITELY hook up then.

I was in SF last spring. Picked up a hustler on Polk who turned out to be strung out and needing a fix. Gave him $50 and got him out of my room in a hurry. It's not a pretty place there any more. The "boys" are mostly the ones who can't afford a computer or an ad in a magazine because their money all goes up their nose or in their veins.

Polk Street has been in a serious decline for some time now. Where did all of those boys go? About three years ago, there used to be at least 25-30 hanging out between Bush and Sutter. Now, there are only a few. And you are right about the quality. Depressing junkies for the most part. Part of the problem came with the opening of the big movie theater at the corner of Van Ness and Geary. The restaurants that were supposed to open there (still has happened) objected to the prostitutes on Polk Street (mostly women) and the city made a major effort to clear things out. Also, one of the most popular hustler bars closed for some time. It has reopened, but the young men have yet to return. Alas!!!

RE: The good old days in Atlanta

Atlanta used to have a wonderful hustler scene near the Mid-Town Marta station. I was there a few months ago, and it was depressing. Only a few guys who looked so strung out they would have trouble opening a car door. Also noticed some street trade near the Phoenix Bar on Ponce De Leon. Same story.

NYC thugs/street hustlers

Hi everyone, especially you NYC area guys/gals who are into street action--

My introduction to the world of male escorts, within the past nine months, has been to NYRicans and Dominicans I met at either Stella's or on the street near the Port Authority (extending down 8th Avenue to 34th Street). I've also paid to suck dick in the basement of the porno at 42nd and 8th (forget the name) and the first floor of the porno at 34th and 8th--tip the attendant $5 and he doesn't see a thing. I've found this area the best cruising for Latino and black hustlers but hear white hustlers work Christopher St. and 14th Street.

With a few bad experiences, I've found some really hot NYRicans and Dominicans who delivered and showed me a really good time. A good trick can cost between $30 and $80. I pay someone I'm interested in seeing again more so that they deliver and know spending some time with me will be worthwhile.

Have found it best to specify a timeframe for our "date"--no more 15-minute wonders for this queen. Have also quoted a premium for these guys to bust a nut which makes it worthwhile for them to work at it. Have also found it best to take guys to a short-stay hotel with straight porno to help them along.

I'd like to start a thread in this folder which recommends and warns about specific hustlers. Unfortunately, all we have to go on is the name they use on the street at the time of our encounter and maybe specific locations where they tend to work. Also, most of these guys are on drugs-big time! Notes about track marks and bad experiences would help i.d. guys to stay away from.

To start, I would higly recommend Michael (who is selling it along with his girlfriend-a tall redhead) at the corner of 43rd St. and 8th Ave. A hot Dominican with a delicious, built body who is into wild stuff but remains sane and can bust a nut if he (and you) works at it. Strictly top. If you can't find him, ask her--they usually come out very late.

Also, Eric--hangs at the Port Authority--Puerto Rican who introduced me (with great joy on his part) to the world of water sports. Very wild, again remains sane, but definitely a very controlling top if you allow him to be. He especially likes feminine men and cross-dressing.

Would love to hear what people have to say about this scene. Issues about safety and tricks to make these guys deliver. Especially, notes about guys who deliver consistently.

Please post messages and let me know what you think. Some guys will probably post messages warning that this route is too dangerous and we shouldn't be out there looking for the street stuff. Well. . . some of us will no matter what; we enjoy the challenge (and the danger, I guess) and rely strongly on instinct, common sense and (hopefully) the knowledge of others to help us in our quest.

Papi-you're posting made me hungry! I would love me some hot throbbing latin dick in my mouth.

You mention Stella's; how about this Olympic Diner on the West Side Highway (in 50s or 40s). Do you know anything about it?

It's nice to see someone with he same taste in meat!

XOXOX

Not dangerous at all, be VERY clear about whats going to take place for how long and exactly how much....and if all goes well, pay more than agreed and he'll come running when he spots you. I've been playing with these guy's for about 15 years and have been ripped off only twice. One of them was a white guy. In my experiences white guy's are only there to hustle you and I stay away from them. The other was a situation I knew in my heart was not gonna work out and was foolish. I've had some great times with these guy's over the years. Always be careful, VERY clear about what going to take place and most important TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS. If any red-flags pop up, just move on, there's plenty to choose from :)

RE: NYC thugs/street hustlers

You guys should read the review I wrote that was posted today about Jayq in Santo Domingo. I have also had my fun (and drama) over the years with the boys in and around the Port Authority. And the first post was right about most of these boys are on drugs - BIG TIME! Mainly crack! So you definitely need your wits about you with fucking with them.

I just returned from a week's vacation in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. After going to that beautiful City and being with all those phoine Dominican men, it's going to take a lot to get me to go back to the Port looking for trade. First of all the men in Santo Domingo are not like the Dominicans in New York. I'm not stereotyping here - I'm just stating a fact. New York changes them. Just like New York changes ALL OF US. Drugs are practically forbidden in their country. It is just not tolerated. The consequences are too severe. Hence, 99.9% of the boys do not do drugs. And most of the ones I came into contact with barely even drank alcohol. It was so refreshing to be with someone and not feel as if you were being hustled for the next get high. And baby, what you get for your money! The dollar is very strong against the peso. That coupled with the general poverty of the country - the most you would ever pay for a phoine, strong, thick and healthy Dominican man is $30-40. And they love to show you around their country and take you to the beach or wherever you want to go. They can be a bit possessive, but I kind of liked it.

So my advice to anyone who likes the "Boys of the Port Authority" is to go to Kennedy and hop the next flight to the Dominican Republic and experience the "Boys of Santo Domingo!" Trust. You'll NEVER be the same!

Great info. Thanks for sharing. If I may ask, did you also enjoy the other parts of your vacation? You know ... food, scenery, beaches, hotels, etc? Were the people accomodating?

Let's hear from others with knowledge of potential fun in exotic places so we can get those summer trips planned.

Thanks.

RE: NYC thugs/street hustlers

Yes, I did do more than fuck and suck. The City of Santo Domingo is a City rich in history. Like any City there are nice places and not so nice. But the people, although very poor, are very warm and friendly. My dominican "husband" for the week took me everywhere. Dominicans are very pround of their country and their heritage and they love to show you around. The coastline of the City is rocky so you have to take a 30 minute bus ride to the nearest beach - Boca Chica. Boca Chica is a Caribbean postcard come to life. In fact, if it's just beach you want - I would suggest staying in Boca Chica and renting a car and driving to the City when you want to. But if it's the boys and the nightlife you're after stay in the City and go to the beach during the day. The most expensive part of the trip is the airfare. Once you're there, the Dollar is very strong against the Dominican Peso and the exchange rate is very good. I flew TWA and had a very good flight. Most of the flight attendants are Dominican and they are very excited about you going to their country and they're quite festive on the flight. The airfare generally runs around $300.00 or so.

RE: NYC thugs/street hustlers

I stayed at the Apart Hotel Plaza Colonial. I'm going back Memorial Day weekend, but I'm not staying at Plaza Colonial again. They were gay-friendly enough and the hotel was clean enough, but it really wasn't up to American standards. Hot water was a hit and miss (mostly miss) situation and the furniture was falling apart. This time I'm staying at the Hotel Duque De Wellington. I met some friends who stayed there when I was there on vacation, and I visited their room. Quite nice and comfortable. And everything works. And they are very gay-friendly. What gay-friendly in DR actually means is that they let you have a guest. But you have to pay for a double room. So when you make reservations, always request a double room with one bed. And always have your guest leave his ID at the desk. This is for your protection.

I recommend using a gay Dominican travel agent. His name is Ray Modesto. His e-mail address is: amigostour@aol.com. He's great. He has contracts with TWA and Duque De Wellington. He's from Santo Domingo, he's bi-lingual and he can make all your arrangements for you. Use me as a reference (StillLovely).

I don't speak a word of spanish. How difficult would it be to find boys with only english. I am going to start spanish classes in the fall, but that does not help me this summer. :-)

Orlando street hustlers

Years ago when I lived in Orlando, there used to be some mighty fine boys hustling there. There were three main spots: Lake Eola and the surrounding neighborhood) East Colonial down to the Parliament House on OBT and the area around the 3400 complex at OBT and I-4. My favorites at the time were Scott, Bobby, Steve and s few others. Is there still a lot of hustling going on? Anybody ever pick anyone up?

Speaking Spanish, although it would make things a little easier and more convenient, is not completely necessary. My Spanish is very limited, but I had no problem. I picked up some more Spanish while I was there, and I've been stuyding it since. Some of the locals speak a little Spanish. And locals are very happy when you make any attempt at speaking their language Besides, sex is a universal language spoken and understood by all! For starters though - if you're into size - try saying "Pinga Grande!"

Very happy to have stumbled onta this site. i have been picking up street boys for many years now. In chicago, Grand Rapids Mi. ( The best spot in the 80's), florida, and L.A. I now reside in the LA area and find santa Monica to still be active. It takes a little more time these days. Best times are around 8 PM and after midnight. The locale has been moving East. Santa Monica near Vine is good. And the area of Santa Monica and western is starting to develop.

Regina -- We go to Olympic Diner often. If you remember the old "Cats" it's not much different. It's become somewhat wilder of late, with much more action rumored to be going on in the club. It's run by LaBamba, of "Cats" fame. He deliberately didn't advertise, and kept a low profile for a while. The crowd can be hit-or-miss, but the dancers are some of the best Latinos in the city.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-22-00 AT 01:39PM (EST)[p]The real problem with Polk Street Trade is the drugs (speed - aka methamphetamines)

The AMC 1000 Theaters had little to do with it.

There was an arrangement made with the city before AMC started construction but it was related to relocating the homeless shelter and Methadone Clinic both on Geary Street one block away.

The very nature of addiction drives people to end up homeless. Any large gathering of people with money in their pockets (as in going to a movie) attracts panhandling and robbery making it unsafe for the theaters patrons. They were also concerned about the number of addicts on and around Polk.

The city backed down on their agreement with AMC anyway. The shelter and clinic are still there.

As for the hustlers on the corners they are victims of their environment on Polk (you can't hang out with speed freaks and avoid becoming one for very long).

Then they too become the problem.

Any hustler who has anything to offer leaves Polk and meets clients other ways.

It is important to note there are exceptions.

There are some great kids on Polk Street mixed in with the others.

The police jump on hustlers mainly because they're easy busts and a lot less dangerous than someone with a gun. Mainly another witch hunt.

These same things are happening on Castro Street as well now.

Then there was the meat rack on Market closed down many years now because Market Street got to dangerous at night and all the foot and car traffic died down, also most of the bars downtown died out also.

Hustler locations are very cycleur let's hope the speed problem is as well.

Atlanta has its good and bad days...there still is quite an active scene in mid-town, just moved a few blocks closer to the highway, since "Cypress Street" is the home of new condo...I've sojourned there previously with excellent results....

Hey Guys,

I'm an author working on a book about men in the sex industry, and I'm finding that street hustlers are the hardest part of the market to get information on. Is there anyone out there who has participated in the street scene-- as either a buyer or a seller-- who would be willing to sit down and tell me about their experiences? I don't need to use your name, and we could even do the whole thing by IM's if you're worried about protecting your identity. The interview would take about an hour.

Anyone who's interested can contact me at WereKeith@aol.com. You can also check me out by doing a search for my name (Keith Hartman) at Amazon.com. They've got the skinny on my previous books.

Anyway, if you can spare the time to talk about your experiences, it would be a big help with my research.

Thanks.

P.S. I particularly need guys who can give me a bit of historical perspective. Is there anyone out there who was hiring / hustling back in the 60's, 70's, or 80's?
