Hi Guys!

I need to do a mileage run to maintain my airline Plat status. Based on all of the positive experiences on this board, Rio fits the bill! I was wondering if the JWMarriott at Avenida Atlantica, 2600, Copacabana would be a good location. I have enough Marriott points to get a free stay. I am most concerned about location. I want to take advantage of the opportunity to visit Meio Mundo and Club 117. Will I be anywhere close to these places? So long as they are a short cab ride I am ok. Also does anyone have any idea of Marriott’s policy concerning bringing one or several (If I am lucky!) guests back to the room?

As always your comments and advice are most appreciated!

Thanks@!

The Marriott has a perfect location at the beach in Copacabana . You can easily walk to the metro station at Siquera Campos to go to the saunas 117 and Meio Mundo, walk to the Point 202 sauna and walk to Maxim's which is frequented by America expats. If you don't want to walk, there are plenty of taxis which will take you to all the different places. Taxis are cheap in Rio.

The hotel is beautiful, but I don't know their visiting policy. Most likely you are not allowed to bring guests to your room.

However, there are several small hotels or motels by the hour where you can bring your Brazilian lover. It is also much safer not to bring a newly met "friend" to your room!

A few years back (2002-2003), a former writer here stayed at the JWMarriott and related that in order for him to get guys to his room from the outside, he had to slip them in. I've visited the hotel, and from its location and ambience, I think you would have difficulty taking guys back who looked much younger and were dressed in the usual garb of escorts.

Take your guy to a "love" hotel/motel; there is a listing at http://www.netgay.cm.br, but it is hoped that your companion would know where to go in Copa or Ipanema.

If this is your first trip, read everything of note at this site as well as at http://www.gaytravelbrazil.com. Keep all valuables under lock and key if you have hotel visitors/guests, and if you take a guy to a "love" hotel/motel-- don't wear an expensive watch, take a lot of money with you, or anything else that you'd missed if taken.

Although I didn't question the integrity of my hotel guests at The Atlantico or Royal Rio, I took the measures which I am sharing here and am for the better in having done it!

Dear Axe and Crazy,

Thank you both for your comments!

Based on your suggestions I have booked the Marriott for a week in mid November. I do worry about hotel security. Although each property is unique, I have been successful in smuggling boys into the Prague, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Mexico City and Karachi Marriotts(among others). I usually tip hotel staff well at all levels and it seems to work.

I really need to pay back the well informed members of this board with a detailed report of my trip. I am inspired by the recent report from Mavica. I hope my body and dick can keep "up" with the very hot environment Rio seems to offer.

Thanks Again!!

I just checked out yesterday and got home today.

It is not the kind of place you want to take your new friends in heavy traffic for they will stick out like street people, unless they are polished educated locals. It is primarily a businessman's hotel It is not the kind of place where you want to display your means, since you will be hit up for more then tips by the guys who are not used to that kind of opulence.

Sounds like you need something conveninent across the street from the Metro stations called The Atlantico. They are used to heavy traffic and the guys will fit right in at breakfast, if you let them stay around, that long! :)

And yes there is a lot of security, as well as, bellmen.

You have to walk right past the front desks to get to the elevators. There is NO sneaking around them! Incidently, I have never seen anyone try to sneak in an obvious short term companion over many stays!

The whole staff knows me by name, so I get extra good care.

:+ :+

PS From the places you mentioned you want to party at and meet locals, the place for you to stay is the Hotel Atlantico for all around convenience besides just 'fitting in'!

Its a beautiful hotel, I've stayed there 7 or 8 times. The rooms are SMALL but nice. The staff in the lobby is VERY dilligent about hotel guests bringing other guests up to their rooms. I have a friend who lives in Rio, he is a college professor and definately does NOT look like an escort, and when he came to visit me at the hotel they stopped us in the lobby, he had to register at the desk and leave his ID there. On a more positive note, its about a 5 minute walk to Pointe 202 from the hotel.

Happy, is this your first trip to Rio? If so, please heed my suggestion and all should go reasonably well if not totally! Also, yes indeed, write a detailed report (in all of its facets) for us to read!

This forum has been relatively quiet for almost all of 2008 as contrasted with past years, 2002-2007; there is a lot of interesting reading in the archives. At times I go back and read for an hour to recapture what I yearn, and I am not just talking about meeting the men who live in Buenos Aires or Rio or Sao Paulo or Salvador (Bahia).

All of these places have phenomenally gorgeous men, culture, and beauty--beauty--beauty!!

I still don't understand why you want to go shopping in parts of town, that has it's own play areas, but you are wondering about taking your purchases back across town to where you are staying, which defeats the purpose of Happy shopping without leaving Happy open to any potential problems!

  • 2 weeks later...

I have stayed at this hotel many times and have had guests to my room on a daily basis, sometimes 2 or 3 a day. I have NEVER had a problem. The guest will have to check in at the front desk with you there as well, and the guest MUST have an i.d. No i.d = no entry. The guest will also have to fill out some form that the hotel keeps on file. There is security everywhere and the guest will not be able to go past them without stopping at the front desk first. I would not worry about bringing in hot young guys. From what I have been told there by the staff and from the large stacks of forms that are filled out on a daily basis, having a guest to your room is quite typical there. And if your guest forgets his i.d.,which happened to me once, you can always walk to 202 and rent a cabine. They open at 3:00 in the afternoon, or maybe even earlier.

JWMarriott in Rio -

Having stayed many times, I can say that there are not many 'boys' being entertained by checked in hotel guests. Sitting in the lobby, buy the pool, the Conceirge louge or riding on the elevators, there was only ONE obvious 'boy' seen on the elevator with his new 'friend' over a period of 5 years! Both were very ill at ease with my presence, since they sensed I knew the score, but choose not to say anything. I was tempted to smile. lol!

On several occasions, I did see guests with local girls on the elevator ride up and down.

But overall there are less Americans staying there and more Portugese speaking natives. So Americans stand out like sore thumbs more and more!

If you want to be more relaxed and have more fun with free breakfasts for you all your guests, then Atlantico is the place to stay. At the JW, breakfast is $25.00 each of you! It is difficult to get it included with the room rate without paying extra. :(

RE: JWMarriott in Rio -

To the original poster: For some semblance of an ease of mind in terms of guests, I'd go for The Atlantico Hotel, too, and if you want some sort of beautiful ambience, try to book the penthouse suite. I was told by a reputable client of the hotel that the suite is quite, quite nice as well as beautiful.

If the penthouse suite is unavailable, book a larger room on an UPPER floor in the rear of the hotel. Buy some flowers and place in the main area as well as in the bathroom. And when you happen to be inside of your room, enjoy immensely.

I've stayed in the deluxe as well as standard room but prefer the former to the latter. I've always had a room on either the 11th or 12th or 13th floor in the rear and have been able to sleep well in spite of the sometimes noisy air conditioner. In terms of the ac and its noise (at times), just turn it on and off and continue with your sleeping!
