Traveling to Quito in July

Any information about the escort and gay scene in Quito? My company is sending me down on business and I will have go at least three times this year.

 

Don't know much about the city and am not all that thrilled to be honest. The other option was Rio so just imagine my disappointment.

Quito certainly isn't Rio, but it's considered to be one of the most beautiful and historic cities in South America. It's spectacularly set at very high altitude in a verdant valley where you can admire the towering Andean volcanos nearby. The historic colonial center of the city has been well-preserved and restored, and it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city population is now pushing 2,000,000 so it's not a small town in the Andes any longer. Since it's located on the Equator, but at high altitude (over 8,000 ft.) the temperature is eternal springtime. Fairly close to Quito are cities like Otavalo and Cuenca, famous for their indigenous markets and craftwork. The Spanish spoken in Quito is considered to be exemplary, so there's a large number of language schools for foreigners who want to learn Spanish.

 

Ecuador is a small country, so its gay scene will suffer some of the problems common to all such places; everybody knows (or is related) to everyone else and many people remain closeted to maintain some semblance of privacy. Nevertheless, there's gay life, as you can see from the website above. You'll have to poke around locally to find out about escorts -- most good-sized Latin American cities have a street scene, which is fairly discreet, and there may be a few bars. Chances are that at least some of the guys at any of the gay saunas are "working," especially the masseurs. You may also find male escorts listed in the classifieds of the local newspapers. Look for headings like "acompañantes," "relax," "contactos," "mensajes especiales," etc. There may be some guys offering their services in the "contactos" section of gayecuador.com

I appreciate your wealth of information and will be checking out the options down in Quito in short order. I could be down there as early as July 1 so I have a lot to do in a short period of time. Since my job involves working on environmental conservation it will be exciting to get out "into the field" as we call it at my organization.

 

There will be at least three trips down to Quito and they will be at least a week each. Consequently, the Condor Bioreserve, Galápagos National Park and Marine Reserve, Machalilla National Park and Podocarpus National Park will be on various itineraries as well. That basically covers the country from the Pacific to the boarder with Peru and everything in between.

 

In between exploring the flora and fauna I will certainly take the opportunity to explore the native species of Quito. Thanks and I'll try to report back as soon as opportunity allows.
