In BA we have a friend who can help us out with the language, negotiations, visits to hot spots, etc. In fact we have two of them, but do we have anyone offering a similar service in RIO? I could use some assistance for my forthcoming trip there. Any and all advice for a reputable person on the ground would help.

Money. It's their profession. ;-)

 

Figure about R$125 - 150 for 4 hours during the day. Rates are somewhat higher if you want a guide at night. Most guides have a 4-hour minimum charge; additional hours are extra. You can get details from the travel outfit you're working with, or from the guide himself if you contact him directly.
