cruising to Rio?

Is it possible to cruise from BA to Rio?Is this done often?Any advice on companies that provide such a service?

It sounds very interesting, but it may be a bit longer trip then it would appear on a Northern Hemisphere-centric map. Plus the water down there may be a bit rougher then the Caribbean, to say the least.

Yes, there are cruises between the two cities. Some are part of longer international cruises (but it may be possible to buy just that segment). Others just ply between the two cities. Costa is one line that regularly has service, but there are others. They advertise heavily in the travel sections of the Rio and Buenos Aires newspapers.

 

This begins to sound like a mantra, but if you're interested contact Carlo Romano, who's a travel agent. He should be able to give you info and probably sell cruises between Rio and B.A.

 

There are also cruises from Rio up the Brazilian coastline to the Northeast, and a new cruise ship is starting on the Amazon (discussed in another posting here, please search for it).

 

Last year there was also a gay cruise from B.A. to Rio around New Year's, marketed to local gays. I don't know if there are plans for a repeat this year. This was organized by a gay travel agency in B.A.
