There was a recommendation for this hotel on another string.

Here is their reply regarding guests.

"Visitors are NOT allowed in the rooms or pool.

The question now is how inforced is that policy!

Thought you might like to know.

If anyone is considering staying at the Ipanema Plaza I strongly urge them to get in touch with Carlo Romano, who sends the hotel a lot of business. He can answer your questions about the REAL visitor policy at Rio hotels, including the Ipanema Plaza, because it's one of the things he talks about with them before adding them to his list of gay-friendly hotels. Chances are that you will also get a better rate through Carlo, who has negotiated favorable rates with most of Rio's gay-friendly hotels.

Sorry, I believe you will get a quote of the official hotel policy, rather then how it is applied or interpreted!

Which leaves you where you started!!

That's always possible, but "old Brazil hands" know that there is often a yawning gulf between "official policy" and what happens here in real life. Carlo (who is not an employee of the hotel) will know what the hotel's actual practice is and will be able to tell a prospective guest what to expect. Then the prospective guest can choose a more accommodating hotel, if it turns out the Ipanema Plaza, in practice, makes it difficult to have "visitors" to their rooms.
