RE: Buenos Aires not the new gay mecca! :(

Sorry drey, but you are confusing what was said with what your are saying. I think the word you are trying to figure out is section!

I am using a public computer, that has a mind of it´s own and retypes words somewhere after it posts. The keyboard needs to be replaced, and if you worked here in the lobby, you would see how everyone beats the hell out of the two computer keyboards available.

The article about Lusthansa and Swiss Int Air, that I was referring to was in the Buenos Aires Herald, that I read every morning. Every day there are followups to the deal being made. I thought that was made perfectly clear. Even Delta is offering double miles to fill the coach cabin. All the money made on the Business Class section fares pays for the flight. All the coach fares are gravy or profits.

Tonite I picked up a local gay paper at the bar. Not really a surprise, but an article pointed out there is a gay TOURISM group meeting the weekend off the 24th to the 27th March to stimulate gay visitors to Buenos Aires as a destination or is it mecca, that hasn´t happened yet. None of the delegates are visible at the gay hotel in BA, the HOJO. Interesting!

The article also includes some of the sponsoring businesses and organizaations connected with the Public Relations efforts!

I believe that is right along the lines, that I pointed out earlier in this string.

Is there anything else, you would like to have cleared up?

RE: How to tell if it is a gay mecc´´!

To keep things in perspective, B.A. is definitely getting a lot of gay tourism and is interested in promoting itself as a gay tourist destination. It's a beautiful city with a seductive lifestyle and all the attractions of a great city, including a large and varied gay scene.

The reason Rio gets more postings on this board is because of the escort saunas, which make meeting guys-for-rent uniquely easy and convenient, and this site is primarily attracts guys who are interested in escorts. Buenos Aires has escorts, too, as discussed in other threads on the board (and there's a hot, hot, hot one reviewed today that should be just your cup of tea!). However, the scene in Buenos Aires is more conventional than in Brazil. In B.A. you meet escorts through agencies, classifieds, reviews, in some bars, etc. In that sense, B.A. isn't different from many other destinations, so its escort scene isn't the same kind of draw as Brazil's.

B.A. has a very attractive gay scene, though, and because of its beauty, European ambience, handsome people and highly affordable prices, it's a natural as a gay destination. The gay tourists to Buenos Aires, in the majority, aren't going there for its escort scene and probably don't even know about the existence of M4M, so that's why you don't find them posting on this site, or find as many M4Mers going there as to Brazil. Most gay visitors to B.A. are going for the general scene and lifestyle, because it's cheap, and to enjoy its famous nightlife. (The nightlife at the moment may be slower than usual, because all discos in B.A. were closed after the tragic fire in a straight club a couple of months ago that killed hundreds. The clubs are reopening slowly as they come into compliance with city codes and licensing requirements, and get inspected, so before long things should be back to normal.) For young people into all-night partying, B.A. is an ideal destination, and it's getting a lot of coverage for that reason, especially on the East Coast of the U.S. as well as in Europe. B.A's late night life may not be as interesting to gays of a certain age, but B.A. offers all the other attractions of a major city, including gay cafés and restaurants, a major opera scene, fine art galleries and antique dealers, etc., and for such visitors who aren't particularly interested in escorts (like we are) it's also a very attractive destination. However, neither of those market segments is very likely to be posting on M4M about their experiences. That's why there are so many more postings here about Brazil.

If a Brazilian-style sauna with escorts ever opens in B.A., Rio and SP should start worrying! (Attention, investors: a business opportunity looms!) But B.A. has more than enough going for itself to attract gay visitors in droves, and gay tourism there has grown by leaps and bounds in the past few years, with room for even greater growth. If it's not truly a gay mecca yet, it has all the potential for being one!

RE: Tourist Organizations

I lived in Switzerland for four years and worked there on and off for 25 years so I know the Swiss pretty well. They are great travelers and you run into them quite often overseas. Most people don't recognized them as such because they are either speaking German, French or Italian, which happen to be their official languages (besides the little known Romansche). I don't know how many Americans I have encountered who thought there was a Swiss language!LOL

Anyway, with their very high standard of living and disposable income, my Swiss gay friends travel the world. Most speak at least two, often three and some 5 or more languages so they feel very at ease in many countries. It just happens they are also a small country and don't travel in hordes like the Germans or British do.
