This is my first trip to Buenos Aires. I found Olimpo sauna on Viamonte 723, which is a small gay sauna not far from Florida Street, and went there around 7:30 PM on Saturday. The place was practically empty but for few workers including "massajista", and probably 3 or 4 customers other than me. I put my things in a locker, the key of which was with me all the time. But when I wanted to leave I found out that my wallet was completely empty, though the locker was still locked. It turned out, the screws that fix the lock to the locker were very loose, and easily removable. The thief could easily open the door take every thing inside, and put the lock back without the need to open the lock. I showed this to the guys who were working then. They asked me to return today to speak to the main manager who speaks English very well. All what he said, that he was sorry this happened, and that the sauna is not liable.

I am not sure if the screws are so loose intentionally to allow an easy access to the lockers and their content while customers assume that their lockers are locked and safe, or if it is only negligence on part of management to have the lockers so unsecured.

At any rate, any one who visits Buenos Aires should avoid this sauna, or at least assume that any thing he put in the locker is easily accessible for the taking by any one, and the management does not care about it, if it was not invloved in the disappaerance of valuables.

Thanks for the warning, and sorry to hear about your losing things there. Friends in B.A. always said Olimpo was a dump. I've never been and never actually known anyone who went there. I guess now we know how they manage to stay in business!

The popular sauna in B.A. (but without escorts) is called Full. Don't remember the exact address, but you can probably find it using the search function here, or checking the ads in "Imperio" or "NX," or in "La Otra Guia." They're also listed in Spartacus.

Not to belabor a point, but this is a good example of why it's useful to engage the services of someone like RobertoBA to at least give you an orientation to the scene and answer any questions you might have. An experienced local can tell you where to go, and where NOT to go (and why!).

Anyway, I hope you have no more bad experiences and enjoy yourself in Buenos Aires!

I did enlist the help of Roberto prior to my trip to BA. He helped me book my room at Howard Johnson Plaza, which is an excellent place to stay when in BA. I highly recommend it. Unfortunately when I got to BA, Roberto was out of town. He referred me to his good friend Elias, who took me on one-on-one tour in BA the day I got there. He did not mention Olimpo, nor recommended it. I found it on my own doing a web-search, and went to it simply because it was close by. That was as you all know by now, a mistake. Luckily I had followed Tri recommendations, and only money was taken from my wallet. No credit cards or papers were lost. Unfortunately, on that date CitiBank ATM machine was out of money, so I took more than usual Dollars with me with the intent to exchange money somewhere. That made my monetary loss larger than usual, but not catastrophic. Even if the theft did not happen, I would recommend avoiding Olimpo sauna. There is nothing interesting there, and as Tri stated: it is a dump, possibly run by thiefs, or by management that does not care about what happens to the property of their customers.

I am now in Sao Paulo. My first visit here after many trips to Rio, staying at Alameda as Carlo recommended. He made the booking for me. His help is always appreciated. I would also mention, that I used the original posting of Tri about Brazilian saunas from 2001 to find my way to Lagoa. I had great fun there. Thanks Tri for all the info, and advice you always provide. I enlisted the help of Carlo, and Roberto based on your good advice.
