Don't try to compare Rio and Buenos Aries. They are as different as night and day. Though a large city, Rio is more like a resort than a city with its beautiful beaches, large hotels, noisy nightlife, and eye candy everywhere. It's simply a physically stunning city. Rio's saunas are unique to this city--very few other cities in the world offer this kind of erotic fun. Cariocas are a sensual, fun-loving people.

 

Buenos Aires, on the other hand, is a relatively newly discovered city. Before the collapse of its economy, BA was rather expensive. Now people are flocking to this very European-type city. It's no coincidence that it is referred to as Paris with Palm trees. 19th-century architecture is liberally mixed with modern apartment houses in the downtown and Recoleta districts. In neighborhoods such as Palermo (which includes areas such as Palmero Viejo and Palermo Hollywood), you see many houses of various styles (colonial, 19th-century European, etc.). But I digress. BA is more of a city and not at all a resort. It's full of culture--the famous Teatro Colon is revered cultural institution hosting performances of opera, ballet, concerts and recitals. Food in BA is also more European in style as befits a city teeming with Italians, Germans, French and others. BA nightlife is as much fun as any other large metropolitan city. There is no sauna culture such as there is in Rio in BA. There are escorts availabe (for resources, look in Trilingual's many good posts), and they are as reasonably priced as in Rio.

 

Have fun in BA. It's a gorgeous city, well worth your attention. I loved it my first time and can't wait to return.
