Collecting my thoughts…

Well, unfortunately, I’m back from Rio and facing Winter again on the East Coast. x(

After re-reading my posts, I realized that I was in no way as entertaining as TomCal, as descriptive as Gringo, or as prolific as Jackhammer. But, I did make an attempt and it helped to replay some of the memories while I was there. Hopefully, some of you enjoyed it! :-)

Thought I’d share with you some informative things I learned while I was there:

Crime in Rio - One of our party at Lapa (a handsome garoto and friend of JR’s) was taking a bus from Lapa to Downtown on his way back home, when someone got on the bus with a gun and demanded everyone’s money. The robber got the money in his pocket, but not the rest tucked next to his family jewels! :-) You might want to avoid the bus system in Rio especially late at night. I purposely left out an expensive looking bottle of hair gel (actually only $11) on the bathroom counter at the Atlantico to see how long it would take for it to disappear! :-) We did have a good many garotos in and out, but they were all sauna boys. It took four days for it to disappear! I learned my lesson before and kept my Cartier cologne locked in the safe, so don’t be disillusioned into thinking that the sauna boys are all choir boys. :-)

Different Lives of Different Sauna Boys – Even though a lot of them look the same wearing only their towels at the sauna, some of them lead much different lives. Spoke with a beautiful, muscular garoto named Vinicius who told me he lives by himself in Barra de Tijuca (a upscale neighborhood in Rio with beautiful beaches) and pays R$1500 a month for his apartment. He also strips at straight clubs for women a couple nights per week. Cezar lives in a favela when he’s in Rio at the top of the right fork when heading towards Point 202. He does his laundry on a washboard! And yet, Cezar is the happiest Brazilian I have ever met – which leads me to the next point.

Steroids – A lot of the sauna boys I have met seem to think that steroids are the answer to a more muscular body and additional income from some clients – Vinicius being one of them. They don’t seem to be shy of the fact, and using steroids seems to be almost like a status symbol that they are able to afford it. My first trip I met Touro, who has appeared in numerous gay porn videos and is now in his early 30s. According to Cezar, he is also very sick now and is hospitalized from using steroids over the years. During my last trip, Cezar told me he was considering using them and I told him they were very bad. I would encourage all of you to express your disapproval of this practice for their own good.

Boy Etiquette – Some of us, and I’ll admit I’ve been guilty in the past, have a tendency to talk about them to other Americans while sitting right next to them. A lot of them spend a lot of time around English-speaking clients and understand a lot more English than you might give them credit. They might not speak it, but a lot of them do understand completely what you’re saying.

New Potential Rates – Maybe Carnaval was just over, but a lot of the boys were asking R$100 for a session in the cabine, even one asking for $100 dollars at Point 202. And yes, some were asking more for ‘passivo’ sex, even though it seems like they enjoyed it as much I did in the end! :-) I was more generous to Anderson because I consider him more of a friend than another garoto, but I only gave R$150 to Angel for an overnight and he gladly accepted. He did get plenty of my American gifts the next morning but not my tennis shoes he was lusting after! :-)

Club 117 Price Increase – As I mentioned, I kept an all-night suite on Tuesday (free cabine night) at Club 117 paying the extra R$15 per hour. Effective March 8, it will be R$15 for each additional half hour. Just thought I’d let you know.

Passport Control – I had thought they had done away with this practice, but I was singled out as an American and asked to enter another line for fingerprinting and picture taking when I arrived early in the morning. It turned out not to be much of an inconvenience since this all occurred while my baggage was being offloaded, and the agent was very nice.

Our favorite Maria! – Well, I have to admit I’d almost stay in the worst hotel in Rio if Maria were there for me. I’ve heard stories of her walking into a room with two guys having sex and never batting an eye! :-) I bet she could write a book of her experiences! I must apologize to the board for reporting that she was retiring. I understood her to say that her last day was Friday, but that was because we were flying out on Saturday! Later in the week, I was able to understand her better and she understood me better as well. I guess Clayton’s lessons helped a lot! :-) On Friday, she brought us all custom embroidered hand towels with all of our names imprinted wishing us well. I told her I was considering living in Rio part time and she gave me her number and told me she would clean my apartment for me.

After Hour parties at Point 202 – This is a bit of a sore subject for me, since this is where Cezar and I parted ways. Cezar told me he was bisexual, and I made it clear to him that it was fine with me, but that this was a special trip for me, and he could have all the women he wanted after I left. If you ever want to ruin your Brazilian fantasy, this party will do it in a heartbeat! x( Talk about the anti-sauna experience. It was presented by Junior (who was in attendance) as a perk to the sauna boys to bring their girlfriends and be themselves. Cezar invited me and told me it would be a great party, but I never felt like the total “pay for sex” gringo until that night. After leaving to check on Gus, I surprised him by coming back and seeing him making out with a girl. You should have seen the look on both of their faces! :-) After speaking with Sergio the night before at Corujinha’s he made it a point to avoid me at the party with his girlfriend in tow. Others have commented that outside the sauna experience you are a complete stranger to be avoided.

As I commented to Song, once you see the mechanical arms that make the animatrons move at Disney World, it’s never the same.

But, on a brighter side, I came away from Brazil without seeing Cezar my last day knowing that I COULD live there and accept it for what it is. It is a beautiful land, and it’s people are truly wonderful. I spent some quality time with some quality Brazilians – Anderson, Maria, and even Cezar. I expected more from him, but I’ll always cherish the time we spent together.

If anyone has any questions about my trip, feel free to ask. I'll also be posting pics of Angel (who I consider to be a John Stamos look-alike, only cuter) and others on the Rio Travel group. I also have a video clip of Cezar dancing to Santana (sorry no Britany), and Anderson and Angel wrestling together -- quite amazing!!!! E-mail me or post if you'd like to see them. So far, I have grweyers and Oz...

Tchau,

- Drey

RE: Nobody's wingman

Thank you for your posts. I am returning in May for a month, but being able to read about the adventures of other M4Mers gets me by so that I don't jump on the first plane south.

Going to Brasil is to say the least quite an experience. Your account should be very helpful for rookies. Was happy to hear that Maria will be at the Atlantico when I return in May. I also got a hand towel with my name on it. Also a very beautiful blue glass fish that I placed with my collectables. Anderson is very special and I also gave him more than he asked for each time I was with him.

Steroids is indeed a big thing. Wan Hallen is an athlete and understands how easy it is to get hooked. I know that one of Wan Hallen's best friends, who was with us constantly on my first trip as we toured Rio, is using steriods. Wan Hallen tells me that his personality is changing and that he does not like being around him any more.

When I return in May, I will probably have to cut down on the sauna visits as Wan Hallen is now becoming very protective. He admits up front that he is gay and has no interest in being with a woman or anyone else other than me. It has been diffficult for me to think of myself as other than a walking ATM, but over the past 18 months I have grown to accept that he loves me and that he is as dependent upon my love for him, as I am for him. I speak with him each day, even if just for the few momments that it takes for him to say I love you (in English). As a side note, Wan Hallen just like many other Brailians, while not able to speak English, knows enough to undertand the gist of almost any conversation.

I feel so helpless in that I have finally found someone in my life, and I cannot bring him to my home, even for a visit. For the first time in my life, I feel like a prisoner in the United States. So for now, I will spend as much time as I can in Brasil to be with meu bebito.

RE: Collecting my thoughts…

Thanks so much for all the posts. I loved reading them. Sorry I didn't get to respond before now. I have been in Thailand with family till tonight.

Loved your story about Angel and Anderson. You and I had some very similar experiences. Hopefully, we can meet up on some future trip!

RE: Collecting my thoughts…

Wow,

I feel like Warner Bros. making so many copies of videos! :-)

Many thanks to all of you that expressed your appreciation of the pics, video clips, and the tales of my adventures.

I’m glad I was able to give back to you as a small gesture for the information you gave me that has developed my love of Brazil!

Big Daddy, I used to believe that they were all out for the money, but this trip I learned otherwise. There are Class A Brazilians out there, and Wan Halen seems to be one of them.

I have said in the past that I have met friends of a lifetime through this forum, and sadly the person that started it all is no longer with us. Rest in ‘tranquilo’ my friend.

RE: Collecting my thoughts…

Drey,

As I mentioned to you in person on the beach in Rio last week, I'm a lurker and hardly ever post. But you are an insperation to me, and I truely enjoyed your posts here, and our conversations in Rio.

Talked with Cesar, at Corujinha's after you headed home, and he was truely sad that you had left--but looks forward to your return.

Hope future trips to Rio find us again there at the same time, as I enjoyed your company and advise.:D

RE: Still loving the fantasy…

Hope MscleLovr doesn’t mind, but I copied his post from another board, since it relates to the boy I called Raul in my thread (the name he goes by in person) that I met at Point 202 one night during my trip.

Re: Raylan Brazil

“Some months ago, this guy was discussed in the Message Center. His website is http://www.geocities.com/raylanbrazil

I was going to Rio and so I contacted him, and asked about his rates and services. As he was expensive and not compatible with what I like to do, I replied politely and declined to meet him.

To my surprise, yesterday I received 3 'begging' emails from him asking for money. Each email not only showed my address but also that of many other guys to whom he had written.

I mention this as a gentle warning (and I'm glad I use a separate email address to contact guys)”

<<<

He is even more gorgeous in person that in his photos, but I guess his Austrian host must have paid him in Dollars rather than Euros! :-)

Thanks, Alaska14K for your comments about Cezar. I enjoyed our talks and sitting on Copacabana beach, as well. Look forward to future trips and relaxing on the beach with you.

I called Cezar the other day, and I jokingly asked him if I was still his boyfriend. He responded, “is possible” in typical Cezar fashion. As TomCal said don’t fall in love with the boys, but with the fantasy – and I am happy to report that my Brazilian fantasy lives on! :9

RE: And a few postcards...

Yes, I, too, want to thank you for sharing the pictures with us!

I had to smile when I read Funseeker's response! I also can attest to his sentiments; on my last vist, I took numerable photos with my digital camera and plan to create a Brasil portfolio which will include these along with some gorgeous pics given to me by Jackhammer and Jivau. Everytime I see photos of my favorite international city and country per se, I become ecstatic! :-) :9 :-)
