RE: Escala Gay

Thanks for your feedback, Dreynsol; however, I do get it. When I am there, I don't hang out with Americans but with Brazilians, so I imagine that I blend in just as much, if not more than you. I have been received in the homes of several of the sauna boys, a few of whom live in the favellas. Therefore, I believe I have a pretty good idea of what these "boys" think of Americans. I just don't think it is ethical to take advantage of another human being's poverty to buy sex for a pittance. That's is my opinion, to which I am entitled; as you are entitled to yours.

RE: What's Cheap

No responsible poster here has called on M4Mers visiting Brazil (or other third-world countries) to be "cheap." Considering the relative wealth of most M4M readers compared to most people who live in countries like Brazil, being cheap is unseemly, to say the least.

However, paying the standard market rate for ANY service in a country like Brazil is not being "cheap." You're paying no more, and no less, than what any other customer would be paying. There are hotels and other businesses in the tourist industry known to have one set of rates for locals and another, much higher one, for foreign tourists. Almost universally, when tourists find out they've been overcharged, they're angry and vow never to return. Charging foreigners more than locals is bad business, whether you're a hotel, a tourist attraction, or an escort. If it's a business other than an escort, it's probably illegal. It would be in Brazil.

"Cheap," in the escort context, would be trying to bargain a lower price than the standard rate. Negotiating is not uncommon among local clients, whose incomes are much lower than first-worlders. But it's unacceptable for a "wealthy" foreigner who can well afford the standard price to do that.

Tipping is another story. Unless a guy was really awful, foreigners should add a decent tip (not less than R$20). Also, if you keep a sauna guy "tied up" (so to speak) for much more than the standard 40-minute romp (like another 40 minutes or more) you should pay him an extra R$50. By keeping him overtime, you're interfering with his ability to find another client, so you should compensate him fairly for the total time you spend with him.

Generosity can be shown in many ways besides hard, cold cash. Treating guys you've been chatting up at the saunas to a drink or sandwich is a generous thing to do. Inviting a guy you like to dinner afterwards at a nice restaurant is also a generous act, as is inviting him to come with you to attractions or shows he might not otherwise be able to afford. (In Rio, for example, many guys have never been to Sugar Loaf or Corcovado, because it's an expensive excursion for someone poor.) Giving reasonable gifts is also an act of generosity.

There are always guys who are exceptional for one reason or another. It's not unusual to find yourself getting deeply involved with such a guy, and wanting to do more for them than usual. There's nothing the matter with that, as long as you don't lose your head (and your bank account) in the process. But visitors to Brazil or similar countries should do their best to think with their big heads, and not their little ones, when they wish to be generous with someone they meet there.

RE: Escala Gay

NYCPAUL,

You are absolutely clueless. As Brazilian I think I pretty am well qualified to call your comments as I see them. So I will.

You are a Totally-Oz wannabe, which is fine if you have the r$$$$$, but you don't have the r$$$$$, so you're pathetic! Better take Drey up on his offer of training & t-shirts to have chance to reach the kind of happiness you are still trying to find.

We Brazilians are not as stupid as you think. My friends loved Totally-Oz, we gave him exactly the vip type of treatment he showed us. He showed us time of our lives to be sure and we sure as hell showed him his.

Yes r$$$$$, i mean lots and lots of r$$$$$ changed hands and came in extremely handy for families, and ok so much better, next time he better show up with the atm card!! :)

But for him, as well as us, it was beyond the r$$$$$$. He gave us what he could afford, and we know that was his CHOISE. Very generous, We learned from him, and I know he learned from us. We liked him. Como pessoa. Respect.

Others don't treat us with respect and we take their money and sometimes rob them blind or worse. It does all balance out in the end.

Yes we have Brazil clients and as long as they treat us with respect -and r$50 - that is fine with us.

For you, it is all about the r$$$$. That is fine. Thanks for telling us we will definitely charge you more. We also appreciate you trying to help us drive up the rate for gringos stupid enough to pay it.

From your name it will be NYC rates. However since you will not be able to afford it, you will not get it, better to stay in NYC.

(Yes have worked in NYC and know the rates!!! Going there again but sorry no luck there either I charge in euros!!)

Because no one, no matter how much money, can buy us if we don't like him - or the way he acts or thinks. We say no more often than you think! Sorry we do have a choise.

Find another country!

RE: Escala Gay

Straightshooter, I'm not sure what you are ranting about in your angry response to my post. Obviously, you completely missed the point I was making, which was all about dignity and respect. So basically it seems that you and I agree, so please stop your screaming and name calling.

Using miles for Good Award Flights

Was able to book two roundtrips BusFirst to Rio on CO with lower miles Awards earned on their partner airline, before they increase the miles needed on March 1.

Have one more trip to book for Thailand the end of the year at the lower mileage rate or two more trips to RIO.
