The BF, who spends LOTS of time on the beach at Farme in Ipanema, advised that those who frequent the sand and surf need to keep an eye out for the guys collecting empty aluminum cans on the beach. Apparently, when they lean down to pick up an empty can, it's not the only thing they may be picking up! The BF said that this afternoon alone three people on the beach had fanny or back packs taken. The collectors just shove them in the bag with all the empty cans, hiding them. So if you take anything to the beach (a foolish thing to do) be aware of this latest scam. And note that the guys who got ripped off today are LOCALS! :-(

As always, your best bet is to take NOTHING to the beach except your towel, your sun block, and just enough cash to buy refreshments and get back to your lodgings. Leave your hotel key at the front desk (if it's a real key and not a magnetic one). Forewarned is forearmed!

Thanks, trilingual for this posting. Like many of your others, they do give us good advice.

In this case, the advice is NOT limited to any specific geographic area. We just ALL need to be careful and exercise some common sense, especially in public places, wherever in the world me might happen to be.

Thanks again for the warning and the heads up.

In closing, guys, take your suntan lotion but leave the valuables at home or in the hotel.

Regards,
