I am in the middle of moving house so I do not have internet access at home. Given the local library wont access this site - nor certain commercial internet cafes, I have not been following whats happening or picking up my message (sorry msclvr).

After a long trip from london (via Madrid) I have returned to Rio for a short break. Having spent loads of $ on the house move it was all I could afford but I am glad becuase I have certain presents for certain guys here.

The taxi drivers are in the currency exchange business now which is a nuisance because I have to say Nao to them twice now. I asked for a metered taxi and the organiser acknowledged this but when i pointed at the meter to the driver he said it would be R$60. 50 yards farther down the road I got out the taxi and moaned again at the organiser who dropped from 60-50-40. I told him I would catch a bus for R$2.50 unless he got a metered cab. He got a metered cab and being december (ie rate 2)and a long half hour trip to the hotel it came to just R$34. I didnt have change so I gave him R$40. (Taxis do not expect tips to be round more than to the next RS1 so lets be clear this was a massive tip to him). Its difficult not to feel cheap when the difference from worse to best fare was no more than $6 (American) but a rip off is a tourist rip off no matter what. There was a principle at stake but I did wonder as I rushed from point to point in hot clothes whilst tired, was it really worth it?

The temperature is 29 and its lovely and fine here but the tv says rain later. Being monday I shall quickly go to estacao followed by 202 or straight to 202 i'm not sure yet.

More later

Bom dia, Driver-

I'm elated that you were able to make it back to the land of the cariocas-- paradise. If you go to Estacao, check out Louis; you might also become interested in Eduardo, a tall lad who speaks some English. I enjoyed Louis' personality, manner, and of course, his "talent!"

Eduardo was interesting conversation, attractive in his own right, but I did not want to engage his services; ...guess I was in one of my extremely picky moods.

In terms of taxi fares from the airport, when I booked legitimately, the fare was always $R50; last October I had a private taxi driver whose base rate was $R60, but I think I gave him $R70. (I just put this here for information, only.)

I think the taxi fare possibly became an issue with you because you were rather tired and warm;

I became exploited "big time" when I went to Sugar Loaf again during my last visit. When I hailed a taxi, the driver turned off the meter and stated that there was a flat rate of R$15. I knew much better than this, and instead of my getting out of the taxi, I allowed myself to be ripped off. I was really upset with myself for not being more aggressive, for I definitely knew better. I'd turned down unmetered taxis on previous visits. And guys, I didn't stay with this man because he was a stunner, either. I can't state what prompted me to acquiesce.

Anyway, Driver, enjoy-- enjoy-- enjoy! You've given yourself a great holiday gift! :9 :9

This illustrates, IMHO, the value of taking a radio cab from one of the coops that work the airport. You buy a voucher at the counter just outside Customs for about R$55 (and you can pay with your credit card). You get a nice air-conditioned car and no runarounds or hassles, which nobody needs after one of those endless flights to Brazil. The difference in price between a metered cab and a radio cab, for those of us with incomes in dollars or euros, is minimal, and infintely worth the savings in aggravation. Penny-wise, pound-foolish applies in this case.

As for taxis in town that won't use their meters, either tell them you want to go straight to a police station ("Vamos direto para a delegacia.") or just get out of the cab. I hadn't heard about the scam going to Sugar Loaf. The cabs waiting at the stand by the Corcovado train terminus are a regular mafia. Don't take one, for love or money. Walk up or down the street a bit and hail a passing cab, instead. You'll save yourself a lot of grief.

Late at night outside bars and clubs you may run into the flat rate scam. In this case, you may want to give in, if the place is in a dicey neighborhood and there isn't much other traffic. In Copacabana or Ipanema, though, just walk about half a block away and hail a passing taxi.

At customs they had the green/red light system enabled which i had read about but never seen in all my previous visits. You press a button and it randomly produces a green light and a bing or a red light and a buzz. Two greens in front of my and no supprise whien i got a red. In turns of time it really made not much difference as all the queueing had been done by then and there was othing of interest on the x-ray.

It was nice to be recognised everywhere again. I no longer pay at front at the hotel (I know most people don't but they used to ask me if I wanted to pay before). I ddid not have to fill a signature card this time and just signed the safe card. Its only little things but it does speed the time up that you get into that room and shower.

On reflection i did not like the night flight, in future i shall try to stick to TAP who fly here during the day but night time back to europe.

202

I went to 202 and throughout the night it was very busy with boys but few clients. I gave out my football top to the barman (Francois) as he asked for one last visit and it fitted perfectly - he was very pleased. The staf remembered me but not many boys did.

Kevin

Kevin is back and working at 202. This is funky Kevin who in the past you had to catch early otherwise he would be in a funny mood due to drinks. He hjad a small Caiperihna (spelling bad) with me and he appeared to be avoiding alcohol. He had dissappeared for one year and three months as he has a little boy now (I saw the photo). Unfoetunately home cooking has taken his toll on Kevin who is not as small as he used to be. I paid for his sauna entrance as he did not work last night and he joined me later at Coruljihnas. At the end of our meal he walked me back to the hotel.

I went upstairs with Paulo at 202 who I had seen before but I was tired and he didn't seem as nice or as attentive as before.

It started to wind down about 10 oclock and at the peak I would say there were no more than 20 clients there about 40-50 boys. Strangely it was not oppressive and i was pretty much left alone.

Estacion

I went to Estacion to get news of my other barman friend. Apparently he still lives at Rio but doesn't work there anymore. Someone even suggested he works the streets now. if thts true I shall have to be a bit more careful. There were about 10 boys there and 2 clients. None of the boys was special in any way and I had one drink then left for ther restaurant.

I had eaten earlier during the day at the por kilo restaurant Sequiro Grill. They seem to have found a little extra space in the restaurant for more tables and another large TV. There was slightly more food selection also it seemed although of the same stock as the existing selection. They like many businesses are putting up their xmas lights now.

Ooops forgot to mention that Jake was at Corujinas with 2 friends. Though he left shortly afterwards it was nice to see a friendly face. What was not so nice is that the restaurant has changed hands and I only recognised one member of staff. Further more there was no black bean soup on the menu - I had bean looking forward to that for months Grrrrr

I had some sort of meat that came with crisps and Kevein had meat with some sort of potato. R$57 in total.

Well I went to 117 first on Tuesday to find it a beter ix of clients/boys from their perpsective. It was almost equally mixed at 30+ each. They were al mainly latino coloured with no stunners. I gave my other present to the barman there who loved it (it was only some minature cologns). I stayed aboout 30 inutes then head up to 202. (taxi fare R$15)

At 202 Kevin told me he saw Adriano ( a barman for whom i had photos of him framed back in england as a gift). The twat only went and approached Adriano when he was with a girl. It turned out to be his girlfriend and aparently a row followed. Worse still Adriano turned up at 202 and started rowing again with Kevin. He canot accept the photos now as it was cause too many questions. Even I know not to approach the boys when they have their girls to hand unless called. How can someone be so stupid. Got the distinct impression a dor has closed on my friendship wth Adriano. Given that this trip was to tie up some loose ends, a door closing is not a good sign. Got to find some good reasons to come back in the next few days.

For the boys 202 was a disarster with about 50 boys and maybe 6 clients. During the row my choice of boy left. I then went to Estacion where there were three boys I could have went with but i was getting abit upset by then so i went back to the hotel and did some revision for an exam then went to bed.

Estacion was fairly busy with about 10 clients and 20 boys.

Tuesday is free cabine night at CLub 117; it seems rather strange that the place was not packed since summer is almost here; in October on a Tuesday, it was a place of many bodies--- clients as well as guys; the place was packed; we almost had to take a number in order to get a cabine; in fact, there was a waiting list. By the time I saw my first escort (Emerson from Tower Boys), my desire for him had dissipated due to the long wait. Roberson, my second guy whom I tremendously enjoyed, even helped clean the cabine so that we could begin our fun.

Guys, Roberson is quite gregarious, packed, hung, a superb kisser, and is a top; he didn't want me to go beyond the base. He definitely can rock one's world once he's involved, and I truly hope that he is still at CLub 117 when I return next autumn, something which is a given right now.

(Driver, I am enjoying reading about your escapades-- two friends of yours Skewerpole and Garotofun will be in Rio in February.) :-) :-)

What a difference a day makes.

Managed to catch up on the Gilmore Girls.

202 was mainly boys 50+ with just 4 clients at about 7 oclock. One boy called Everton was very good looking and very enthusiastic upstairs. I regret taking a viagra that day as i swear it makes it take longer to come. Well when i did it was a real gusher and it seems he swallowed most of it. He came soon after also and was a little moaner throughout.

Kevin is becoming a pain, latching on every night at 202 moaining he has not worked.Luckily I was with Jake at COrujihnas last night otherwise I bet he would have joined me.

Still as many boys on the street outside each evening and the old bottle kicking act is still there albeit another troupe.

Weather today is at 30 degrees and not a cloud in the sky mmmm.

Thursday brought different boys to 202 and a more even amount of clients. There was nothing special in my eyes though. Kevi was a pian again trying to get me to pay his entrance fees. I refused politely and it did look like i didn't hae much money (thank god for other pockets).

The black ben soup is on the brasilian menu at Corujihnas just not on the english version. The restaurant has got rid of the games machines and put better chairs out. The border is defined by a line of flower boxes so you have to use the main entrance as the exit now. (or risk tripping up). The weather is gorgeous as per usual this week.

Driver , your experiences with Kevin sound very familiar.

He hit me up a number of times for admission, drinks, and sandwiches. He even told me once the next day was his birthday and he expected a gift. And, he doesn't get it when he is rejected.

It is good to hear that he isn't drinking as much. He wasn't the nicest garoto in Rio after a few. x(
