You guys have been MORE than helpful with your opinions on hotels. Maybe if I narrowed down what exactly I want, I could finally decide on a place. I am alone and looking for sauna fun every night (particularly Estacao). I spend most of my time in Montreal and am a TABOO lover :-)

OK so...What might be the cheapest way out for me? I need at least a 3 star hotel close to the saunas . I hope for gay friendly.... and would love to be able to stay 3 weeks in January.

HELP!! any ideas?

The information you supplied helps. You're going to want to stay in Copacabana, and not be schlepping nightly between the saunas and Ipanema.

Contact Carlo and see what he can do for you. As a travel agent, he can make reservations for you at any hotel in town, and he'll know which hotels are affordable and "visitor"-friendly if you don't want to stay at the ever-popular Atlântico or Royal (where he's worked out favorable rates). For a lengthy stay he may be able to work even better rates.

If you plan to stay at least 3 weeks, you may do better with an apartment, rather than a hotel. You can ask Carlo about apartments, also. In addition, search the FAQ and the rest of the Escorts South board for the information on Odilo's apartment (use those keywords). He's an M4Mer who rents his large studio when he's not using it himself. There are other references to sources for renting apartments on the board, if you search for them.

The apartments come in various levels of price and comfort. Most include weekly maid service. At a hotel, of course, you'll likely have less space, but daily maid service and a big breakfast buffet included in your rate. They will also have someone who speaks English, in case your Portuguese isn't fluent. So plug those factors into your calculations.

RE: P.S.

Haven't been to Taboo, but as I recall it's been described here as specializing in twinks. In case you haven't read all the threads here, I just want to be sure you know that the legal age of consent in Brazil is 18, and getting involved with anyone younger can lead to a world of trouble. The Brazilian criminal justice system is something you NEVER want to become familiar with, particulary as a defendant! The law is enforced and foreigners get busted for sex with under-age guys.

You can be confident that guys you meet at the sauna or through agencies are of legal age, because the owners check their documents to avoid troubles for their businesses. If you meet someone on your own, and there's ANY doubt, ask to see their ID. All Brazilians have to carry their "identidade," also known as an RG, and guys over 18 also have to have ID either showing that they're in the military or have completed their military service obligations (they may not always carry the latter document). The IDs have pictures and birthdates.

Don't just take someone's word. There are reports of guys picking up underage hustlers who then blackmail them by threatening to denounce them to the police. In the police enter the picture, it won't matter if the sex was consensual and/or commercial. The minor will have the upper hand. So this is just a reminder to all twink-lovers about what's legal in Brazil, what's not, and what kind of trouble you can get into if you break the law.

RE: P.S.

Thanks...that's good advice. I like the younger looking twinks but 20 years old and up.....I'm not all that excited about big beefy guys...

When I inquired about apartments for 3 weeks, I could have got cheaper than the Atlantico but the locations were either too far to walk from Coruljihnas or they never had cable tv ( I needed to see what happened to Rory in Gilmore Girls).

In any event the housing market has started to wobble here in the UK and as some of you that I have met know, I am trying to move house but the funds keep disappearing on Brasillian holidays for some reason.

Well the common sense has kicked in and I have cancelled my October flight and booked a new front door instead. Painters and decorators are due also. If the apartment doesn't sell quickly I might fit a December/January trip in but I have a feeling it will be too hot for me then.

Its a shame becuase I was lookng forward to seeing the guys there again. The odd things is that my July trip seems years ago but in reality it was less than three months.

If anyone wants to help don't forget my 1-800-fundmyfucks line is still onpen at only $0.75 a minute for the first three minutes.
