I read in one post somewhere that most boys in one of the Rio saunas were not afro-brazilian. I am coming to Rio in June for the first time, and expecting to visit some saunas there. Can any of you guys advise where I could find some afro-brazilian boys (hustlers)? Thanks for any suggestions or comments.

Afro-Brasilian escorts are at all of the saunas in Rio. It was I who inquired of TomCal about these guys at Spa 73; he replied by stating that when he was there, this sauna had one or two guys. Someone else last summer stated that this particular sauna had many, many. When my best friend and I first went to the Pointe a few days before Carnaval in 2003, there were more than five; one gorgeous sauna boy from Bahia approached me, but at that time I was on my way to a cabine with another cutie. I missed out.

You want have to worry; guys of all colors, sizes, etc. are available at the saunas that all of us have frequented.:9

Axiom's right. There will be guys of all backgrounds at the saunas and hanging out later at Corujinha, including Afro-Brazilians and some mixtures you never even imagined! Brazil has the largest African-descent population of any country outside of Africa, so you won't find it difficult to run into Afro-Brazilians just about anywhere!

A couple of weeks ago on the History Channel there was a program about Brazils early years of being populated via some Protugese slave traders.

It was very informative and sensitive to the many, who still suffer from exclusion and the avenues to surviving.

Great historical review and worth watching on the repeats.

Very helpful to understanding Brazil and it's people today during your visit.

Recently I picked up a copy of the novel Robinson Caruso which somehow I had overlooked in my youth, since I loved adventure stories like Swiss Family Robinson and the like. It's a great yarn which I thoroughly enjoyed, particularly since I have now visited the various places detailed in the book, including Rio.

What was interesting was the story of how Robinson was heading from Rio to the coast of Africa to buy a shipload of slaves when his boat was blown off-course and ended up being shipwreaked near the Caribbean. What I found enchanting was Robinson's relationship with his side-kick Friday, described as a beautiful man of color and exuding male vitality and charm (despite being a cannibal who Robinson converted to eating other kinds of meat LOL).

Robinson comes to love Friday as a son and eventually takes him to Europe and one can't help but think that there is some implied sexual attraction between the two although Dafoe never directly acknowledges that fact. If the novel had been written today, that link would surely have been addressed more honestly but it is fun to connect the dots anyhow. }(

Far more Africans were brought to Brazil as slaves than to the U.S. Something like 4,000,000 slaves are thought to have been brought to Brazil over the centuries, versus something like 500,000 to the U.S. So that's why Brazil, with a population of 175,000,000 people today, has the largest African-descended population outside of Africa. Well, of course, we're ALL African-descended, based on recent archaeological discoveries, but I'm talking about more recent African descent! ;)
