I just returned from an unbelievable time in Rio in January. I am now a Rio addict. It was unlike anything I've ever experienced, and am returing in April. Thanks to this forum and to all of it's contributors for giving me the idea to go there in the first place.

My question is about buying perscriptions in Rio; namely Viagra. I went to a couple of Pharmacies in Copacabana (near the Atlantico) but I felt that the price of Viagra was still pretty expensive there. Can anyone tell me where to go to buy cheap Viagra in Rio, and how much they paid for it? Also, is there a problem with customs when taking Viagra home?

Also, has anyone taken the bus from the airport to the main subway station, and then to the hotel Atlantic which is across the street from the Siquero Campos station? What bus do I need to look for at the airport, and is it pretty safe? I just feel like I am getting ripped off with the taxi's to and from the airport.

Thanks again for this great forum and for all of the contributors.

:D :D

I purchased Viagra in a "farmacia" which is in the lower part of Rua Figueiredo de Magalhaes. There was no problem to get this product.

A 4-pill pack of viagra (50mg) was 85 R$. A milder form of Viagra (named Vasoviril) is available for 49 R$.

This has been discussed previously; please note the archives. Do a RIo Viagra check.

Also, my friend who traveled with me last February/March made a purchase at a farmicia which was on the opposite side of the street of the Atlantico-- a block away; the man working there showed my friends two types of pills denoting mgs. etc. My friend was pleased with the price. I am at a loss at restating this.

FYI: The airport is a distance from the international airport. R$35 - R$50 has been the rate I've paid since going there (Rio 3x's). When I hailed a car from the hotel (on two occasions)-- I handed the driver R$50; he accepted it. I've also bought a ticket at the airport at the suggested booth; again the price was reasonable. At the time, I could have bought an RT ticket at the time but didn't; the women even asked if I wanted currency and that a commission would not be charged. I declined.

Not all drugs are cheap in Brazil, and Viagra is one of them. I just had to buy a different prescription drug and paid nearly US$100 for 14 pills (a two-weeks supply)! And this was one of the odd cases where the generic turned out to be more expensive than one of the brand name versions!

Bus from the airport: I think there's still an air-conditioned executivo bus (Greyhound style) that runs from the international airport all along the ocean front avenues in Copacabana/Ipanema/Leblon. It would be much less expensive than the taxis. Ask at the official tourist information desk about the bus. However, it makes lots of stops and will take a long time to get to where you're going. You don't want to travel on regular city buses or the metro carrying luggage. A taxi is a better choice. This is one of those penny-wise, pound-foolish situations, IMO.

Do they have Cialis down there yet? It sounds like it's long-lasting effects would be perfect for Rio...

Somebody needs to do a full review of the stuff in the Lounge, but it'd be rather expensive to keep oneself 'entertained' for that long in the states... ;o)
