Ran into Alex at Corujinha's last night. He's busily recruiting new talent to fill out his roster, and he was working the crowd before heading off to meet another "I'm not really gay, but. . ." prospect at the Incontrus disco, next door.

Talked briefly with Carlão a while ago; he didn't get back from Costa Rica until early this afternoon, so he's bushed, but he said it was a good experience! The film (don't know the name yet) may be released in March, and he's been invited back for another shoot at the same time. So I guess he DOES photograph well and isn't shy in front of the camera!

 

He lives in one of the 'burbs, but he said he's coming to the beach tomorrow, so we'll get together afterwards and I can get the WHOLE story! But it sounds like it was worthwhile for him, and he's very happy about the new prospects this is opening for him. (Like a three month working holiday in Spain during the summer season there!)

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy!

Tri, How do those rates for the Apollus guys compare with having the sauna boys come to your hotel for a session? It seems that a better deal can be had in the latter situation. I am assuming $100US plus taxi adds up to about R$300 or R$150 per hour.

 

When I was in Rio I only had one escort back to my hotel and had to pay R$100 to the hotel and had to register the escort as a "guest". Too much hassle and after that I used the "love motels" or just stayed at the saunas for sex.

Luv2Play, although you asked Tri about the rates--I decided to respond after going to the conversion forum on HooBoy's site. Fifty reais equals $17.00 in US dollars; For $100 (US) one would obtain R$293.

So R$100='s $34. (The minimum monthly income for many Brasilians is R$200. I think I'm quoting correctly about what I've read in the past on this board and at this forum in particularly. Hope this helps!

 

Apollus has increased the rates. In October of 2002, the rate was $80 for ninety minutes-- 1.5 hours.

The rates at Apollus are more expensive. However, not everybody likes saunas, so if they don't they're not going to be able to meet the boys there!

 

BTW, if you had to pay R$100 to bring a "visitor" back to your room, you got ripped off and you should consider staying at a gay-friendly hotel like the Atlântico next time! There's a REASON, folks, people stay there! Not only is it comfortable, friendly and well-located, it's virtually hassle-free!

 

Returning to the topic: Compared to U.S. escort prices, Apollus is obviously cheap, even though it's high by Rio standards! However, the US$100 rate also covers a TWO HOUR session; at the saunas you're lucky if it lasts much more than 30 minutes. And in addition to what you pay the escort there (plus tip), you're also paying for "cabine" rental and pre-/post-coital refreshments and whatever else!

 

More importantly, some of our readers prefer the certainty of an arranged encounter at a place of their choosing rather than the hustle-bustle of the saunas. Also, for the Portuguese-challenged among us, the extra cost is worth it to be able to make the arrangements in English or other European languages (Alex, the manager of Apollus, speaks several) so there are no misunderstandings about what your date will or will not do. Also, Apollus checks out all its guys before hiring them, so the chances of being robbed or ripped-off (admittedly low among the sauna boys) is virtually non-existent. For the security-conscious, that's worth a premium, too. Alex is very professional, conscientious and detail-oriented (he's of Swiss descent, so you can imagine!) and the great majority of people I know who've used Apollus have been pleased with their experience. All of that makes it worth the modest extra cost for people who prefer to make their arrangements through an agency!

 

Hope that answers the question. Different people have different needs, and there's room for both the agencies and the saunas, as well as the street scene and other ways of meeting people in Brazil! There's something for everyone! :9

I would like to point out that one of the new guys listed at the site is none other than Daniel, who joined Alex, The cab driver, and myself for our last orgy. Olus our Milleages Apollus for the Summer explain very well if you go 5 times with any of our apollusboys the fith its only USD 50,00 , well if we made the calculation each cost USD 90,00 ok
