I spent one week in late August in costa Rica. Mainly in San Jose. Carlos at Joluva House can be helpful with advice, but not about rent-boys. Well, I did not ask his advice in this regard.

Puchos is a strippers bar, where reportedly the boys strip to complete nudity with hard ons on stage. Many strippers were there when I visited on weekend, but I saw no full nudity before I left before midnight. Many boys offered me a "massage" at my hotel, maknig me think that they are also rentboys, but I declined. I was not in the mood to get some unknown guy to my hotel room. I saw no rentboys in the 2 saunas I visited, Paris, and Hispalis. The latter is much larger, now with restaurant, bar, and possibly dance area that were opened the weekend I was there. Many hot Latinos, but they are no match to my favorites, the Brazilians.

In summary, Costa Rica is a very beautiful country naturewise with very rich flora, and fauna, and many hot Latinos, though I had no experience with rentboys there. It is worth visiting, but not a match to Rio or Brazil. Hence, I'll be on my way to Rio soon. I'll not get there till after the M4Mer Party on October 24. So, I'll miss seeing Tomcal in action.... Hopefully, he would not exhaust all the boys in Rio, and some would be still willing to have fun in Novemebr when I get there. I am eager to be in Rio again..

I thought of adding some helpful links and info.

Joluva House is a small gay hotel in north of downtown San Jose, very close to Paris Sauna http://www.gaycostarica.com/paris/index2.html (which is not a very interesting sauna). Joluva House is not a luxury or upscale place. There is no phone line in the rooms, so do not take your laptop with you. Here is a link to its site: http://www.joluva.com/ It has a link to a very helpful map of downtown San Jose with gay points of interest.

La Avispa http://www.costaricagay.com/laavispa/index2.html is very nice dance club south of downtown. Latino dance music is mainly played along with North American. It is very crowded early evening Sundays (As early as 7 PM) and Tuesdays evening.

De Javu http://www.yourdiscodejavu.com/Default1.htm plays more "American" dance music than Latino. I did not visit it.

Puchos http://www.puchosnightclub.com/ is a bar with strippers. Most from Nicaragua, Panama, and colombia. some native "Ticos" as Costa Rican call themselves. It is close to La Casita, another stripper club that i did not go to.

Hispalis http://www.saunahispalis.com/ is a very nice sauna with no rentboys, with new disco and restaurant that just opened in August.

I hope these links would be helpful to newbies to Costa Rica. Veterans, I am sure do not need them.:-)

Thanks, that's helpful.

I'll be staying in San Jose for a couple of days ahead of my friends around Christmastime. Then we head to the Pacific Coast and Arenal.

Thanks to The Cajun I'm trying Joluva, too. Looks fine for my needs, and I definitely will NOT be traveling with my laptop. I like their responsiveness. My flight arrives late so for 20 bucks they're picking me up at the airport.

Did you happen to do a sky trek through the rainforest canopy?

If the boys aren't naked enough maybe I'll do an intervention.

I did not try the sky trek through the rainforest canopy, but I met others who tried it and they were very enthusiastic about it. I did the whole day "The Highlights Costa Rica" tour http://www.costaricasbesttour.com/ which took me to Poas volcano, cloud forest, Siempre Verde coffee plantation, La Paz water fall, rainforest, and Sarapiqui river. Highly recommended. I went also on trip to Irazu volcano, city of Cartago, and the botanic garden. Carlos at Joluva house can give you very good advice about available tours/trips and book them for you. You'll be picked up from the hotel. Other participants are typically not gay. Most American, many Europeans.

Blue, the sky trek comes on two varities. One is like a cable car and the other is a rope sling you sit it which is hanging from a pulley on a cable. Both are enjoyable but the rope on the cable device is like a thrill ride. Just don't expect to see any type of animals. Too much activity has scared them away from these areas.

Have fun.
