I will be in San Francisco October 7th & 8th to continue my training for my upcoming trip to Rio. I have been checking out Craigslist and have found several very interesting posts. I was wondering if any of you have had any experience with using Craigslist. If I am going to even cum close to Tomcals Rio orgasms, I will definitely have to improve my performance from the Los Angeles training/get my visa trip. Also, I would really appreciate advise on a hotel to book that is gay friendly or at least friendly enough not to give me a hard time if a "friend" comes to my room. I am flying into Oakland ($100 cheaper than SFO)from Phoenix and am probably going to rent a car. I was told that it would be easier just to take BART into the city, and then take a cab. Being from Phoenix however, I kind of feel naked without a car. Again, appreciate any information.

Big Daddy- since I am not from SF and live 120+ miles away- I always find myself now (all friends in the Bay Area are either dead or have moved elsewhere) having to book a hotel in the City. I just returned after staying in the Union Sq. area (east) in the Crowne Plaza for under 100 per night. ...got from Hotwire.com. No problems with guests. In fact-- you will not have problems in the larger hotels downtown. Give Hotwire.com or Hotels.com a try. Also do a search here. Recommendations have been made within the past eight months to visitors to SF.

I haven't used Craig's list, but I have been with some fine Latino men who live in San Francisco: Ricardo (my love)--Brasilian, Anthony Moreno and Antonio, two caliente Mexicans. All three men are indeed personable and kiss like refined gems. Anthony has a "beer can" dick! Read my reviews about the former men.

I hope we can get together for a bit to discuss your experiences while you're in Rio at The Atlantico... Axiom

Downtown San Francisco is one of those places where an auto is a liability rather than a necessity. The public transit.Muni. is excellent and varied. Also a great city for walking. But that probably is not what you are looking for.}(

From Oakland Airport, take the BART shuttle bus to Bart station. You need to buy a $2 ticket inside the terminal before going to bus stop. If you are over 55, skip the ticket line and go direct to bus, drop 2 quarters into fare box and Go directly to BART. When the shuttle drops you at (Coliseum?)BART station, buy a $5 ticket which should get you there and back. If you have never used it before, BART has a very slick electronic ticketing system. (Once you get the hang of it)

Small bills and change are very handy. If you have nothing but a $20 you are SOL. Unlike Brasil where real smiling humans are always available to make change and assist in other ways.

Check with a real San Franciscian, but I think the 3rd stop in SF is Powell street which is the one you want for Union Square. Yes, Ricardo is wonderful. (say after me; Hee-CAR-Doo, this is training for Rio, remember?) :D Also check out Brian Thomas and Devon on this web site.

I just deleted a long response by accident so now I'm cutting to the chase. Get a car if you want one--Muni is good but don't force yourself into something you're not entirely comforable with because people who know SF but don't know you think you don't need it. What you need is to feel comforable and secure and for many people, that's having your own car. Boys-Ricardo is the best. No question. Physically wonderful but the true Brazilian warmth in his personality--always a performer and concerned about his client having a good time. Reserve ahead because his time books up! SF Traveler

SF-- I appreciate and concur 150% with what u wrote about Ricardo; he principally has time during the week now; his weekend dates book fairly quickly. I'm to see him soon, but I think (much to my chagrin) that I'll postpone our date until I return from RIo.

Of all of the escorts I've seen during the past two+ years, he and I have seen each other innumerable times, at least every month or every two months. Each of these times has been deliciously fun as well as different. Again- thanks for the additional info which escaped me completely!

Unless your hotel/motel has parking(and parking at most SF hotels is now around$30 a night)and you are used to big city driving/parking(it is next to impossible to find street parking in SF)do not bother with the hassle of a rental car-it is more a buden than a help. The Bart-Muni-cab combo will save you over $50+++ a day(cost of rental car-parking)and a lot of frustration.I lived in SF for 10 years, visit often,and-if I do drive choose to stay in a motel with free parking, versus a nicer place with garage parking.

Priceline gets some great bargains in SF-checkout biddingfortravel.com-and scroll down to the San Francisco thread.

Here's a plan: Unless you're fixated on a high-priced deluxe hotel, consider staying at the Hotel Renoir on 7th and Market. It's an older, moderately-priced property that is popular with European tourists and is totally gay friendly (Peter, the manager, and many of the staff are "friends of Dorothy/Judy/Marlene etc."). The advantage to this is that the hotel is right at a BART stop, so you can forget about a car or dealing with parking. Just take the airport BART connection to the Civic Center Station. Walk out the exit closest towards downtown (the ones for 7th Street) and take the escalator up. You'll be diagonally across the street from the hotel. The area IS scruffy, but it's not as unsafe as it may seem at first blush. There have been a lot of private patrols lately, and the area has been cleaned up considerably in the last few months. So just head across the street to the hotel, check in and have a good time. The Renoir is within walking distance of the Folsom Street bars, and only two long blocks to Powell Street, the cable cars, and Union Square. Best of all, to practice for Brazil, the hotel restaurant is the Café do Brasil, where you can sample Brazilian food and where the staff are warm and friendly. Thursday thru Sunday evenings they have churrasco rodízio at a very reasonable price, and a VERY cute (but officially straight) bartender! There's also live music on some of the evenings later in the week.

If you can't get into the Renoir, there is also a reasonably priced Ramada at 8th and Market, and a Holiday Inn right around the corner on 8th. If you stay at those, exit the Civic Center station from the end farthest away from downtown (the direction behind you as you come from Oakland airport).

Some transit-friendly hotel alternatives if you want to spend more are the Marriott, Palomar, Renaissance, Four Seasons, Sheraton Palace and Hyatt Regency Embarcadero. All are on or steps away from Market Street and BART/Muni Metro stations. The first four are at the Powell Street station, the fifth at Montgomery, the sixth at Embarcadero Station.

From all of these hotels you can walk or take the Muni Metro or a short cab ride to shopping, the Castro, you name it. Enjoy!

Driving in San Francisco is best left to the locals. If you don't know every pothole, dip, bump, hill, crest (and there are many of them), if you can't spot obstructions from two blocks away, if you can't slalom around the double-parked trucks up and down hilly, bumper-to-bumper-at-45-mph streets, if you can't stand pedestrians who wander anywhere they want like sacred cows -- you will be eaten alive by some tailgating, have-to-get-there-15-minutes-ago VW bus with a "What Would Scooby Do?" bumper sticker. Enjoy your trip and spare yourself the stress.

Thanks for all the advise and information. Have DEFINITELY decided not to rent a car. Using the Metro actually sounds fun. I am going to be at the San Francisco Hilton on O' Farrell Street. I put a Priceline bid for $75.00 and the Hilton picked it up. One question. Can I access the Hilton from BART? I have lined up a few "training" sessions and will report back. Am counting the days until I leave for Rio on Oct 22nd. I am flying from Phoenix on Continental, connecting in Houston. I was wondering if anyone else has this connection? I am going Coach and returning 1st Class on Nov 4th. Continental had no 1St Class seats down, but was lucky on the return. I am using frequent flyer miles and it is only costing me 52,000 miles. Again, cannot wait to meet many of the guys that have been posting since that very first, almost sacred post of Tri's.

The Hilton is about 3 - 4 blocks from the Powell Street BART station. If you're not loaded down with luggage, and you have a wheeled bag, it won't be a big problem walking there from the station. It's not quite as convenient as the hotels that have a station entrance at their front doors, but it's well-located and you'll be within easy walking distance of Union Square and Market Street. Have fun!

RE: Oct 22nd CO

When I check the Seat map on COntinental for Oct 22 out of SAN and IAH, there are a lot of seats availabe in BF, but they have not been released for upgrades, and maybe for awards.

I got BF seat on the 22 Oct and return on Nov 3 with UPgrades for Miles. Coach is very full.
