Tomcal gave me the names of the five saunas that are recommended and discussed on this board. However, I failed to ask Tomcal for the address of each sauna. Tomcal also told me that at least one of the saunas can be reached by Metro. I did not think to write down which sauna. Those saunas that can be reached by the Metro, does anyone know which Metro stop is closest to each? Is it better to go by cab to certain saunas? Maybe this information is posted somewhere in the archives, however, I cannot locate it. Help anyone?

Estaco and Pointe 202 1/2 block and 3 blocks respectively from the hotel.

Club 117 Rue Candido Mendes,117 ,Gloria

Go out the door of the Atlantico Hotel, across the street, take the metro(subway), you can only go one way, North as this is the end of the line at the Atlantico/Siquiero Campos stop. Get off at the sixth stop, Gloria, go up the stairs, walk down to the corner which is Mendes, and go left 1/2 block, look up and you will see a lighted sign that says "117" The metro ride is about 8 min. vs. a 15 - 20 min. cab ride. However you have to cab it on Sundays as the metro doesn't run on Sundays. Which is a good day at 117

Spa 73, you need a cab for as well as Meio Mundo. I would skip Meio Mundo, but Spa 73 is worth a visit

Spa 73 - Downtown, Rua Pereira Almeida, 73

Meio Mundo, Downtown, Rua Teofilo Otoni, 18

The addresses and detailed directions to most of the saunas are in the semi-world-famous Brazilian Sauna review. There's a quick link to it in the Escorts South FAQ section. Have you looked there? That's why we created the FAQ section: to provide answers to basic questions!

Also, I seem to recall posting (again!) in the last few days the websites of Netgay and the Rio Gay Guide and the Brazil Gay Guide, which have extensive listings with addresses. I think those are also in the FAQ. If not, PLEASE learn to use the search function in the message center to find basic information.

Sorry if I seem cranky; I've spent days packing for my move to my new homes in the "Paris of the Prairies" and Rio, and I have corrugated box poisoning, but all the information you've asked for is here on the board or in the FAQ.

What may not be in the sauna review is the address of Point 202, which is new since the semi-world-famous review. It's at r. Siqueira Campos, 202, near the corner of Min. Alfredo Valadão. Siqueira Campos is one of the streets the Atlântico is on (the hotel is at the corner of Toneleros and S.C., directly across the street from the new S.C. metro station). It's about two and a half blocks up Siqueira Campos (towards the hills) on your right. Look for the blue awning up the stairs.

Tomcal is right about a cab to Spa 73. It's located in area that's actually somewhat past downtown, known as Praça da Bandeira. Find Spa 73's website and look on it for a map, which I'd suggest you print out to show the cab driver. Not all of the drivers who work in Copacabana know where it is off the top of their heads.

There is a subway stop convenient to Meio Mundo, just 3 blocks away. I've always had luck in this sauna, particularly with guys who look more "boy-next-door" -ish. Also the boys I met there were significantly less worldly and jaded in comparison to the other saunas. The guys in other saunas seems to me to be more the slick businessmen and the guys at Mundo less experienced and I think having more fun. I didn't see any body builder types here.

Their showers area is very cruisy--this may sound dumb because it is of course a sauna with rentboys--but I liked going to shower and suddenly finding half the staff surrounding me in the shower proudly displaying their woodies!

I've also met the most friendly of Brazilian johns who provided me with great information and even invited me to parties or to take me to other gay cruising hotspots.

It is easy to get a cab at night from here but you probably have to walk a block to the Boulevard, but the neighbohood here has several decent sidewalk cafes and pubs. I didn't find it at all intimidating.

Yes, thats the subway stop for Meio Mundo. It's near Candelaria and there are taxi stands on both sides of the highway. However there are homeless people sleeping along the sideways of the Rua after the sidewalk vendors close up around 10pm.

I suspect that Meio Mundo is best for afternoon and early evening.
