Just had a quick question. I am in the process of hiring a guide/escort in Rio. The quoted figure per day is U.S. $250.00. The guy who is hired would show me around, as well as participate in "extracurricular" activities. Is that a reasonable rate? I want to be fair but at the same time not be taken advantage of. :*

For my upcoming Oct. trip I was quoted a rate substantially lower that that (by half) from a well reviewed and very hot local. Now, it's true he has hit the video scene of late and the rates now might be higher although I would expect him to honor the original rates . I also should point out that those rates were based on ten days. Yes, all of the "ammenities" were included, tour guide, sex, body guard, did I mention sex? I would be reluctant to pay what sounds like U.S. Rates from your post. Are you sure those quotes weren't local currency? That would sound more like it. Anyway, good luck and have fun.

IMHO the rate is EXCESSIVE and you are being taken for an expensive ride. I recommend you contact CarloRio on this board for a fair rate. ;-)

I agree. US$250 is a small fortune in Brazil! Even R$250 would be on the expensive side, unless the person is going to be with you 24 hours a day and is providing his own car and paying for his own gas, tolls, etc.

 

I'd also suggest contacting Carlo and comparing rates before you make a commitment. You may find it more reasonable to contract for a guide and keep the sex separate. Remember that the going rate for a guy at the saunas is only R$50! And it's now low season, so there's more competition.

WOW, for that price you better be getting sex every hour during the tour with the guy!!(at least 12 times) LOL I Agree with Gringo, he is ripping you off, big time. Check the posts from April were we talked about Edwardo, who works at the suana, speaks English is very trustworthy and Gulliver, Florida Robb, SF Traveller, et al have all delt with him, and you should SAVE about $230.
