Well I have arrived and survived my first day. The weather is slightly overcast but using factor 16 i avoided my first usual error and have no pink bits.

Taxi from airport - authorised rank with the desk outside the arrivals door but inside the terminal fare=56$R

 

There were building sounds comming from point 202 but there were no signs of works when it opened.

 

It is higher than the road wth access by two flights of stairs. It is big inside with cooling by large fans. The main area has the usual cafe/bar with about 15 tables all chromeish is style. The large shower area slightly off to on side allows the boys to show off their wares. We then went on to Incontus next door which was not what i expected. What a great disco. Absolutely packed. Flaked out about 3am a bit drunk.

 

Low point: slipping in the shower at Estascion and scraping my thigh leaving a nasty little graze. they were concerned that I had hurt myself and put what looked like chocolate sauce on it. (from a first aid bag i should add)

Apologies for the delay in posting. The computer at the Hotel always seems to be busy.

On the Tuesday my american contact had not arrived according to the front desk. I pottered around a bit then head off for the sequiero grill. Thanks al for the recommendation it was very pleasant.

I had sushi and a mussel salad and some pudding which was tôo rich. $R25 in total.

 

I was very tired that day i suspect due to jetlag. I had a nap then head off to 117 via the subway which was very clean and efficient. R$1.47 for a single ticket.

 

117 has a new café/bar área in the basement with what is supposed to be a jacuzzi but it is really a bathtub with a bubble system and no filtration that i could see. A boy told me it could smell often.

Dalton was there as was Anderson and several others that I had had before. This would be a nusiance as each in turn tried to get repeat business and not leave me alone.

 

I choose Rafeal that evening who had a prety face but no body necessarily to speak of.

 

He was quite good but when it came to me fucking him i think he found me a bit tôo thick. He tried hard though. We went to Corujinha to eat and it wasn’t nearly so busy as the night before.

At the Hotel i asked again about Bob and corrected their spelling and his name came up. It turns out he had been there all day. I left a note under his door and went to bed. Traveler's Diarrhea

 

I hope the stomach thing clears up, too. It's not uncommon, though, to have a bit of stomach upset when traveling. Different water, different food, different intestinal flora. . .

 

When I get traveler's tummy, Imodium usually keeps things nicely under control. I also go to a supermarket and buy a liter of fruit-flavored liquid yogurt ("iogurte" in Portuguese) and make sure I have a glass at least once a day. That also seems to help. It keeps perfectly well in the "frigobar" in your hotel room. Just be sure that you're actually buying yogurt, and not one of the many other fruit-flavored dairy drinks that seem to crowd the dairy display! If you have trouble finding it, ask someone for "iogurte para beber." Of course, regular yogurt works, too, and it's often available as part of the included breakfast at your hotel.

 

If things don't clear up after a few days, or they get worse, you can look for a doctor or resort to self-medication. A good, broad-spectrum antibiotic like amoxicillin will usually do the trick. You can get it over-the-counter in Brazil. Just be sure to get at least ten days worth and take it all, even if the symptoms clear up within a couple of days. You don't want to take the risk of creating a drug-resistant version of your bug!

 

I don't know anyone who's ever gotten amoebic dysentery or other such parasites in Brazil, although I'm sure they exist there. General antibiotics won't work on them, and you'll need to see a doctor. You'll know if you've got parasites, because you won't just have mild runs. If you have really painful cramps and explosive diarrhea, possibly accompanied by some fever and other flu-like symptoms, and it doesn't stop within 24 hours, chances are good you've picked up some new little friends! More serious measures will be necessary.

 

Whether it's just traveler's diarrhea or something more serious, be careful not to get dehyrdrated. Fortunately, Gatorade is now sold everywhere in Brazil, so drink plenty of it while this is going on. It's an excellent way to replace the salts you lose when you've got the runs.

Roger's was open on 28 February-- the only time that I went there when I was in RIo for Carnaval. There were very, very few guys present as well as clients. I had a fine massage from Carlos; my friend saw fabulously tatooed, hardbodied and muscled Lucas.

Look over the threads for the past 6 months(since last Oct.) and you will find quite a few comments about the Atlantico and overall I think of the 10 or so guys from this board who have stayed there have all liked it! The rate, location(to Estacio-3/4 block, 202-3blocks, beach 4 blocks)The rooms are comfortable, clean and reasonable, and best of all you can don't get hasseled if you bring a "friend" back to your room. Not sure why the agency wouldn't recommend it unless they don't get a "cut" for referral there like they do from other hotels!!

Don't listen to the guys from Apollus; Mike from Miketur (who discussed this with me, but in nonspecific terms, when I was with him on 4 March) and Alex from Apollus do not recommend the Atlantico, for they want YOUR BUSINESS, but I'd VERY DEINITELY recommend it. I checked into the Atlantico in October of '02 and had NO PROBLEMS! My friend and I intentionally booked the Atlantico for our most recent eleven days in Rio. Both of us had guests without any problems or without our having to pay anything for overnight guests.

 

When hunk Russo came to see me on the night after our wonderful cruise, he rang my room and came up. After he left, a desk person rang my room and asked if all was fine! Of course, I responded affirmatively! I had another guest (whom I trusted) who didn't check in at the desk at all. Cutie just came up. (I presume he came to the hotel and went immediately to the elevator and to my room, for there was no ring before or after.)All was well! (One early morning, my friend and I noticed two women signing in and their male companions.)

 

I haven't posted yet about my eleven days, for the experiences will be written in a different format; my second paragraph alludes to staying at the Atlantico because of the pluses-very conveniently located to metro and three saunas and the beach..... Av. Atlantica, etc......

After my short visit to Rio last month, I'm of the opinion that there are many hotels you can stay in where you won't be hassled if you want to bring back a guest. That said, if the purpose of your trip is to, primarily, pass your time in the commercial-sex saunas . . . then I think one would be hard pressed to find a better hotel to stay at than the Atlantico Copacabana . . . because of its location which is convenient to a couple of those places. Mine was a first-time visit, and the hotel suited me well; but I'd likely stay somewhere else if I made a return visit. If you choose the Atlantico, my suggestion is that you make your reservation directly with the reservation staff of the hotel, and don't let anyone tell you that one employee or another will be able to get you a "deal" if you use the name of any particular poster here; from what I've observed in messages posted to this board, guys who've used the services of a private reservations service have paid as much as 20% more per day than someone who makes a direct reservation (and, my guess is that the same thing is true for other hotels where you choose to go through an "agent").

For those, like Mavica, who would prefer staying elsewhere, it can't hurt to find out what other hotels Mike recommends and what rates he can quote. However, I don't agree with his assessment of the security situation at the Atlântico, because there aren't any hotels in Copacabana or Ipanema that aren't relatively close to a favela. Trouble from favelas can happen anywhere in Rio, even in exclusive, upscale neighbohoods like Ipanema or São Conrado. So I wouldn't let that affect a decision to stay at the Atlântico. In fact, I am going to stay there for a few nights (for the first time) when I go to Rio later this week. If I'm not happy with the place, you guys will be among the first to know!

Driver, when I went to Estacao's-- I took a plastic bag filled with condoms, lube, mints, and R$50's.
