Don't think so

trilingual . . . I don't expect to be re-visiting Rio any time soon, it was a good enough first-time vacation spot (weather was great, beach very nice), but, unless someone drops an exceptionally-low airfare in my lap . . . I think, for me, there places I'll enjoy more. I've learned never to say never, however . . . but I wasn't as impressed with the hustler scene as some of the other posters are. To each his own, its one of the things that makes this an interesting life.

RE: Don't think so

Absolutely. And there's much more to Rio (and Brazil) than escort saunas, as many of our posters have experienced for themselves. It's a vast country full of fascinating things and the warmest, nicest people on the planet, IMHO.

On the sexual side, for many of our readers there are plentiful opportunities to experience non-commercial sex in Brazil, as I believe Mavica discovered for himself. Brazilians are very sensual and sexual people. For people who know Portuguese and can communicate with Brazilians and understand TV and newspapers, it's obvious that Brazilians see themselves in those terms and take pride in their sensuality. It's part of the national "personality." Age has nothing to do with it. Older people can be sensual and sexy, too, in Brazil. I'll never forget that a few years ago one of the "destaques" (featured attractions) on one of the floats in the Carnival parades was a well-known 80-year-old actress who appeared topless. It was the talk of the nation, but in the "you go, girl" vein! (I hope I look half as good at 80 as this woman did. Of course, a touch of plastic surgery was probably involved. . .)

Anyway, as I've said frequently, the saunas aren't everyone's cup of tea, which is cool. They work for a lot of folks, obviously, but that doesn't mean they have to work for everyone. It's possible (I'm told) to have a perfectly good time in Brazil just sightseeing, enjoying the beaches, eating out, hitting the night spots, etc., without ever going near commercial sex! Chacun à son goût! It's what makes the world go round!

If she was that fabulous lady who used to sleep with Pres. Vargas you're talking about, I think I know who you mean. One year, not so long ago, she actually sang live and in person in Cinelandia during carnavale. Incredibly filthy language make the locals blush..

RE: Don't think so

I don't know if she was one of Vargas's paramours, but she's certainly old enough to have been!

Several years ago I also saw Carmen Miranda's younger sister, Aurora, at a program commemorating Carmen at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Aurora used to tour with Carmen in South America, before Carmen's career took off in the U.S., and appears in one of the Disney films made during WWII as part of the "Good Neighbor" campaign. She went back to Brazil to marry and settle down. Anyway, Aurora must have been well in her seventies when I saw her at BAM, poured into a form-fitting sequined gown, and singing a couple of the songs she and Carmen made famous. She, too, looked damn good for a woman her age, and hadn't lost her allure. It's GOTTA be something in the water in Brazil!

(P.S. Aurora Miranda is still alive, I believe, but must be in her nineties by now.)
