Sauna Guys As Escorts?... (Yes, ESCORTS!)

I've been interested in a few mentions here and there of having Rio Sauna boys actually serve as escorts (read: Guides) outside of the saunas and hotel rooms! How popular is this and is it a good idea? I always like being shown around by locals; but how informed are they about tourist sites and how about their ability of speak English? Sounds like being with one is good for security; this makes sense, I guess. But are they also pleasant and relaxed, e. g. at meals and just walking along at a relaxed pace? What's the going rate for this service? How does one know who is really good at this? I don't think they all would be. Actually this sounds like a really nice option. Would it be worth starting to keep track of specific guys from specific saunas who would be recommended? Cheers.

Some of the guys at the saunas speak tolerably good English. Whether there will be one around during your trip is a hit-or-miss proposition, as the turnover is high at the saunas. If you want a sure thing, try Ernani in Rio or Arthur in SP. You can also ask Alex, at the Apollus agency, if he has currently has any boys working who speak some English and can spend some time with you as a guide.
