Last time I stayed at the Atlantico and had a double room. My friend Louis had a much larger room with the sauna style bathroom. TomCal had a corner room which people recommend.

Now I'm sure my room was a deluxe double. What was my friends room? (not on a corner) and Tom's room?

I am considering my next visit and am pondering the room choices.

Driver, my room number if I remember was 1101, all the --01 rooms are the S.E. corner of the building(over the lobby entrance door corner). When i go back in April, i am getting the roomtop suite, with its' own pool!! very inexpensive. Tom

Driver, use TomCal's advice; my friend and I who will be in Rio next month and during Carnaval did. I requested of my travel agent to request two of the 01 rooms or the 08 or 09 rooms for us; I believe TomCal had mentioned the 09 rooms in his earlier posts! If we are in Rio during the same time, we might just run into each other. AX

One of the M4Mers is currently occupying the suite. Besides being spacious, it apparently has a roof terrace/garden with a small private pool, or something like that. I believe he said it's going for the equivalent of about US$70/night, but I could be mistaken. It was very inexpensive, considering the space and accommodations, though. Maybe he'll read this and post directly about his experience and the rates. . .

Prices for February

I e-mailed the Atlantico for a room-rate quote, and heard back from them today. The single/double are going for the equivalent of +/- US$55.00 and the "Presidential Suite" is going for about the equivalent of US$95 (a one-bedroom suite, with the small pool, etc.). The rates were quoted for the period February 7 through 15th, and include taxes and service charges.

RE: Prices for February

Apparently, it is high season in Brasil right now. The rates should be lower after the 5th of March. My friend and I will share a single/double from 28 February until the 4th or 5th of March; after that time we each will have our own room at a much lower price as cited by our ta. We're staying at The Atlantico, but I am unable to quote the prices.

Thanks for giving us the preceding info... AX

High Season

Yes, I'll be there during "high season", and so will you. You'll be there at a time when rates are the highest of the year. Query: why can't you tell us the prices you've been quoted? Do you expect to pay more, or less, than I was quoted? Thanks.

RE: High Season

Mavica, yesterday when I responded, I was some distance from my desk and did not feel like searching through the drawer which contained the specific information alluded to in your response.

After I read what you wrote today, I did want to address your concern: My friend and I will be sharing a room for four nights; we paid $449 each. The six nights that we will have our own room-- 03/03 until 03/09-- we paid $450 each-- $899.00 each total. So I'll assume the rates are in order; perhaps for you somewhat cheaper since you did not use the services of a third party or a ta. I'm ok with this, for we took a packaged deal which included relatively "cheap" air fare and decided to extend our visit to eleven days instead of accepting the mere five day tour to Rio during Carnaval (Carnival).

Hope my response allays the unintentional mystery!:)

Atlantico room prices, location

Axiom2001, thanks for the information. I’m assuming that the “$899 each” hotel charge is quoted in local currency, and not in U.S. Dollars (at least I hope so!). You’re right about the mark-up paid to travel agents, that’s nothing new . . . but I’ve seen some big mark-ups for that hotel (as much as US$20 per night!). And, you’ll be there for Carnaval, when prices skyrocket. I handled my airfare from Chicago myself, online with United, and got a fare of $613 r/t (which includes all taxes, but not the visa cost). By the way, the room price quoted me by Atlantico, including taxes and service charges, is the equivalent of US$50, a bit lower than I mentioned yesterday (the “Presidential Suite” was actually quoted at the equivalent of just under US$94 per night). Again, thanks for the clarification on the prices you’ve been quoted.

For TinyBubbles, here’s the web address for the Atlantico, you can visit the webpage to see what it looks like in the pictures, and I think that there’s a map showing it’s location. Here's the link:

RE: Atlantico Presidential Suite

I received a reply back from Atlantico regarding the Presidential Suite for my trip in October (10/23-11/02) the price I was quoted was R$300 plus 10%, breakfast included. The 10% added on may be per night or total, I am not sure and it was unclear in the e-mail. I am guessing that works out to about $101. per night US$ under current exchange rates. Am I correct that the this is the suite with the private terrace and small pool? How does the reservation system work with this hotel. Do they require full payment up front, or is there some other arrangement?

Thanks

RE: Atlantico Presidential Suite

Many Brazilian hotels add a 10% "service" charge (the tip for the staff supposedly, although I don't know if they ever see it). The real has been strengthening ever since Lula's inauguration, and today it's at R$3.29 = US$1. Jack's estimate is correct.

I don't know about the Atlântico's reservation policy, but most Brazilian hotels don't ask for advance payment. (Some resorts or international chains might.) Just go ahead and make your reservation, and if they require a guarantee, I'm sure they'll notify you. If so, you can do it on your credit card, as you would in the U.S.
