Brazil virgin on my first swing (20 days) around the country.

IGUASSU FALLS - so incredible I never thought about sex; not just one sight, but a whole series of huge, high, roaring waterfalls with wildly different vistas and walking paths (some hovering right above the falls). Devote a whole day to the Argentine side; staying at the Cataratas Hotel in the park on the Brazilian side is great. Highly recommend the expensive but unforgettable helicopter ride, but disappointed in the zodiac boat ride that just gets you wet under the first junior falls then returns.

MANAUS (AMAZON) - nothing breathtaking, but a nice place to see, with the day cruise down the Amazon. Never made it to the alledged H20 sauna downtown, but a Varig attendant (and the cruisy Tropicana hotel sauna, not great but interesting) helped me make it through the two nights here.

SAO PAULO -- My first stop, three nights. Incredible, everything you guys had said it would be at the sauna! Frankly, in light of the recent threads, not sure how much detail to print here. I'm racing to the airport now, so I'll get back to highlights later. But...

One thing I want to underscore is to chat with local patrons and make friends with US/Euro veterans. It really helped in a variety of ways -- the boys see you as "connected" (not a here-today, gone-tomorrow tourist), you learn a ton of tips and interesting details, and it is fun -- espcially when relaxing between bouts!

Cheers, Billy

BRASILIA: Strange but interesting artificial city.

Cojunto Nacional Shopping Center is indeed quite cruisy,

as previous posters have noted. But last night I went on

to the SOHO Sauna, a small one-floor basement place near

the center of town. The late shift (I arrived about 9:15

as three boys were leaving) had about six not-so-hot guys.

I played around with an interesting young guy who turned

out to be a real MD(!) not a rent-boy! Naturally, he was

not too bad at "playing doctor." After that, my small

sample of the boys who were definitely not MDs yielded

disappointing results.

This afternoon I went in search of Caligola and New Aquarius.

I was told by my extremely helpful taxi-driver who quizzed

numerous people in the area that neither is in business.

While we were searching we came across a mid-sized working

class sauna (Acropolis or something close to that) that was

filled with all shapes and sizes and ages (but apparently

no money changes hands). Had an interesting afternoon.

A 20-something guy from Rio, not super-handsome but not bad,

was my climactic favorite, but, as I left, he politely

refused my offer of a 25R Christmas present!

Cheers, Billy

BillyZ, since there has been very little reporting recently from the land of the Cariocas and Paulistas and others-- I wondered if anyone from this board was visiting "paradise" as some members here have called Rio. I want to thank you for such a charming update. I truly enjoyed reading it and thought about my future plans.

SALVADOR -- Glad this interesting city was on my route.

It was more affluent than I'd expected. Something about

it was almost Mediterranean. The old historical district

was charming and is being carefully restored.

Along with the African heritage and cultural influences,

I was expecting an overwhelmingly African-Brazilian

population and was surprised to find a much more mixed

population.

Never made it to Sauna Rio, but went twice to the Thermas

Persona which had six guys one afternoon and eight early

the next evening. Only two were black and one white. The

rest were that amazing rich, silky smooth, golden honey

hue that I've seen nowhere else on earth outside of Brazil.

All were muscular and masculine. The bad news is that

"slam bam thank you sir" was the pervasive style.

Happily, a handsome, friendly, half-Lebanese half-Portugese

Brazilian from Porto Allegro staying at my hotel more than

made up my deficit in cuddling.

Onward to Rio...

LBB-- I liked your "take" on Billy's last update, but did he really mean there were only six "boys" present one night and eight during an afternoon or that he was in a marathon? Now, if he intended to state the latter, I'd have to say -- my, oh my, oh my! The "man gots really powerful stamina!"

I'm interested in what hotel in Salvador you stayed in Billy and whether you liked it, was it convenient to the gay attractions, how easy it was to get around etc. I'd love to go there and I'm collecting travelers' tips. Thanks in advance.

Salvador

sf traveler,

I usually do the kind of hotel research you are doing,

but I was lazy and went with the hotel recommended in

my package -- the Pestana (an upscale Portugese chain).

It is 23 story Brasilia-type modern hotel throughout,

with only a few rough edges. Almost all rooms have

great views of both the Atlantic and the city. But, it

was a little taxi-ride (BR$12 and 12 minutes) to the

sauna and to the old town. I'm sure you can find

hotels that are quite fine and closer in.

But it did get really hot when I was there in December

and it was not yet the heart of its summer yet. So,

taxi rides are not necessarily such a bad idea. For

a city of a couple of million, Salvador was surprisingly

easy to get around in.

If you want to spend more than just two or three days,

my biggest single tip for Salvador -- based on chats with

several local guides -- is to go in May when the weather

is not so hot but the many European and South American

tourists have not yet arrived. (I was often told that U.S.

tourists are considered a rarity at any time of year.)

RIO -- Spending nine nights in Rio as the grand finale

to three weeks around Brazil...

*** E-mail me if you are a tourist in Rio now and want

to share a drink at Jabba's or 117 (now that my new

buddy AlphaDog has left Rio).***

Here are a few preliminary reactions to Rio:

* As impressive as is Club 117 here in Rio, I've gotta

say that I have yet to see any place in Rio that rivals

Thermas Lagoa in Sao Paulo as the best in Brazil (i.e.,

on the planet).

* And yet, Rio is such a sensational city to be in --

the pounding surf, huge glorious endless beaches, buffed

Speedoed bodies, scattered fantasy mountains, exuberant

smiles, Samba rhythms, endless sightseeing options -- in

contrast to grim Sao Paulo that I'll have to figure out

how to stay in Rio and take a shuttle to Thermas Lagoa

in SP. (My travel agent is still in shock that, without

any business obligation, I asked to go to Sao Paulo of

my own free will.)

* So, if it is true that the Thermas Lagoa owner is

indeed going to open a place Rio -- in Copacabana no

less -- and does manage to transport his success (and

maybe clone some guys in the process), I will enroll in

Portugese classes right away.

* Taste is such a wildly varied and curious thing that

I'd never argue with those who have found special guys

at Estacao and Rogers, for example. Yet, I found Club 117

to be so superior in every respect that the need for a

short Metro ride was a small price to pay.

* The valuable and cautionary lessons of this board have

been extremely helpful to me. Rio offers so much to enjoy

with little or no risk that it is foolish to take risks that

can be easily avoided.

* For orgy highlights, I will not try to compete with

AlphaDog's masterpiece ("Rio is fantastic! I love Rio")

account of two of our recent escapades.

Ahh ... after re-reading the post, I think you're right. I mistook the word "Persona" for "personally." Guess I need to pay better attention next time. Damn!, now I let it out of the bag that after one measly cum, I'm done for the night! x(

Greek for me?

117 was closed Monday. So I first went to the Copacabana sauna, a clean non-escort place about the size of Estação and located at Rua Dias da Rocha 83 (tel: 2235-5563). Entry BR$20; sheetless cabines free; open until 5am, but I was there late afternoon. Several nice and not bad looking masseurs were there (BR$25) but I did not sample their skills. Of the dozen guys there, half seemed quite ready for action; all were Brazilian in their 30s to 60s. I enjoyed it for a non-monetary change of pace.

On my way back to my hotel I inexplicably stopped off at Rogers and am glad I did. The famous Yan was still nowhere to be found (and I remembered the report on this board that he'd be in NYC in December in the service of C. Klein).

At Rogers, I did see Antonio (he loves to add "Bandaras" with a flourish and a smile), who looks a bit older and less "pretty" than most of the "boys," but is sexy, masculine, and muscular (two U.S. footballs must have been implanted into his smooth pecs). He should hold classes to teach the other guys how to be so polite and friendly, and not pushy.

In a corner upstairs, Antonio was seducing a handsome young Greek tourist (early 30s, cute, fit, medium short, light brown hair) who looked Danish, not Greek to me. But Antonio warmly greeted me and beemed when I told "John" how great he was. John was primed and ready for action, but told me, as he'd already told Antonio, that he did not know this was a fee-based sauna and was short on cash. Hmmmmmm.

In the Christmas spirit of generosity, I tossed out the idea of a three-way: John could pay the BR$15 for the cabine and I'd do the tipping. Antonio's eyes got big as he deduced what I was proposing. With his head bobbing like a happy puppy, Antonio volunteered a two-for-one sale at the standard rate.

Well, it was win-win-win. John was even cuter naked, grinning from ear to ear, hard as a (mid-sized) hammer, and amazed to see a hunk like Antonio down on his knees alternating between his two new toys with incredible gusto.

When we finally pulled Antonio up to confirm that he kisses like a champ too, I started sneaking some strokes on John who responded by immediately making it clear he'd enjoy a genuine three-way (not just a "two-on-one" way). Fantastic.

Of the many subsequent configurations, my favorite sight to behold (and then dive into) was when John on his back managed to in-take (with a deep "ohhhhhhh" but no screaming) Antonio's formidably thick weapon. (OK, I definitely believe now this is Greek to me.) And then John gave me a killer smile than did not require ESP to figure out exactly where he wanted me to make my biggest contribution at that "point."

Ater John and I had blasted, most sauna guys would have walked us to the showers or at least let us collapse quietly. Antonio, however, was still going strong -- sucking lips, pecs, and further south to do his darndest either to erect a second round or build a ton of customer loyalty, or both.

Oh man, Rio. And maybe Rogers is not so bad after all.

Wow! THIS is a masterpiece. My writings are such humble and besotten peckings on the keyboard that I am honored that you would call my posting about our adventures masterpieces. Thanks.

That sounded like a lot of fun! I wish I had seen Antonio. And this "John". After I arrived in Buenos Aires, I really missed the raw energy of Rio, the whole scene of the saunas, the ready availability of the garotas de programmas.

By the way, BillyZ, my overnight guest did show up Sun night in BA. :9 Wonder of wonders.

Are they still calling you Bill Clinton at 117? El Presidente!

I return to Texas tonight, resume my position as AlphaDog of my pack, and will dream of my Rio adventures with my friend BillyZ, and the boys of Brasil.

First Brazil Adventure - Dec 02 - Post #5

RIO -- 117 was closed December 24 and 25, and

its rivals were closed or had short hours. So,

I explored three non-escort saunas.

I think all three would be fine places to take

someone you have met at the beach.

At all three, the entrance fee was only BR$20

or less. During my visits at all three, the

clientele ranged from mid-20s to early 60s and

were all Brazilians (except me); each has a

room showing gay videos.

Copacabana Sauna -- Rua Dias da Rocha 83

(T: 2235-5563). Smallest and least fancy of

the three (but bigger and nicer than Rogers).

Nova Leblon (Ipanema) -- on Rua Barao da Torre

522 just to the west of its intersection with

Rua Garcia D`Avila (T:2287-8899). Very nice;

lots of free cabines with sheets. More "aging

models" (retired and married but nostalgic

ex-escorts?) than the other two places. This

was also the only one where I encountered a

rent-boy covertly working the sauna (quite

unsuccessfully it appeared).

Catete Flamengo Sauna (Catete) -- Rua Correia

Dutra 34. (There is another one on this same

street at 68.) Crowd not quite as upscale as

the other two but not as blue-collar as I`d

expected. Its three floors were clean and

fairly big.

There was a lot of action at all three, without

too much posing. I was puzzled by my success

with some of the younger guys (20s and early 30s)

and my lack of success with some interesting

older guys -- just the opposite of what I`d

expected.

See http://riogayguide.com/gaybaths.htm for a

listing of Rio saunas; note those with asterisks

are supposed to have rent boys.

OK, no more off-topic mention of taboo freebies!

Money and security

In response to a couple of e-mails about money and

security, my system was to withdraw the maximum

allowable amount (BR$1000) from Citibank ATMs in

Sao Paulo and Rio (to get the best return per with-

drawal assuming US$2 fee per withdrawal). Never had

any problems. Did not try using ATMs when I was in

the hinterlands (Iguassu, Manaus, Brasilia, Salvador).

I brought American Express Traveler's Cheques and

U.S. cash as backups, but never used them. Also,

I rarely used my Visa or MasterCards since my hotels

were prepaid. (Cheques, cash, and cards were kept

locked in my hotel safe deposit box, along with my

passport, airline tickets, and extra Brazilian currency.)

Unlike some of the posters here who prefer to use

their credit cards at saunas I never did. Why?

Better exchange rate at ATMs; the sauna fees are

such a small amount (US$15-$40) even with lots of

room rentals; and paying cash avoids any risk (no

matter how remote) of getting overcharged later.

Plus, to minimize the chances of credit card fraud

(one instance of which was posted here a few weeks

ago), I prefered to minimize the number of pages

floating around Brazil with my credit card number

on them.

I also liked to walk around, as I do in all cities

overseas, without a tempting billfold bulge (just

a photocopy of my passport and some flat bills in

some zippered pockets), without a watch (asking the

time is always a good excuse to start a conversation

or at least a pantomime), and without any other

jewelry (which I don't wear anyway).

I did meet a D.C. couple who were thrown on the

ground and robbed on the beach their first day in

Rio. I was feeling sorry for them until they admitted

they were having a romantic after-dinner stroll on

the deserted part of the wide Copa beach over by

the ocean (far from the bright crowded sidewalk

area) wearing lots of gold jewelry and rings, and

dangling a thousand-dollar camera. Of course, at

home they would never loiter by themselves at night

on a dark bank of the Potomac flaunting their wealth

and gold. At least they recognized how foolish they

had been and were not blaming Rio as some uniquely

dangerous big city.

RE: Money and security

Great post and informative to all the guys who are traveling to Rio(or anywhere for that matter). In four trips to Rio this past year, and every night there, walking around after midnight, I never had any problems, but always stuck to the busy(pedestrain and car) streets. I don't wear a watch or ring, and leave everything except whatever amount of money i think i will need for the saunas, in the safe at the hotel. I do carry one credit card with me and that's where my card got duplicated, but don't know if it was at the suana or restaurant. The bank took the amounts off right away, but hassle to sign and notorize a fruad document to the CC company. I go to NYC and Miami frequently for business and live in L.A. and definitly don't think Rio is anymore dangerous then those cities, just practice common sense.

I agree with your assessment of the falls. It was an awesome spectacle to be surrounded by jungle and a myriad falls from all angles. Did you take the helicopter ride? The locals claim before the dam the falls were even more spectacular. Hard to imagine.

Glad there are sensitive people like you who appreciate nature. Trisexual, for example, has never mentioned the Falls because there is nowhere to go to each huge black cock and get humiliated. Oh, well, to each her own.

Is it impossible for you to be positive and optimistic? Your acknowledging Billy for reporting about his experiences at I. Falls was ruined by what you wrote in the second half of your response.

Also, I think Billy would prefer NOT to have his informative thread ruined with anything other than the purported intent!

I read Tri's response to you, but prior to my going to Brasil in October of '02, I. Falls was mentioned; Trilingual reponded succinctly and concisely.
