Hey guys:

Been lurking here for a while but haven't found the answer to these questions: Is there much popper use in Brazil? Where can you buy them in SP? Is it okay to take poppers to Lagoa and Fragata? I know poppers are illegal, but I've seen guys using them in cinemas, etc. Just wondered if the boys would object...or get into them?

I imagine poppers can be found in São Paulo, through some of the gay sex shops. However, I don't think I've ever seen them in use at the baths, or much of anywhere else. Frankly, it's the rare Brazilian escort who would have any real need of them. They can get and keep a great big whopping hard-on without any artificial help.

Whatever the situation, I'd be very careful. If they're illegal, and there's a problem, you really and truly don't want to become acquainted with the Brazilian criminal justice system.

My experience mirrors Tri's. I have never seen nor heard of poppers being used in any of the half dozen termas I frequent, including the ones you mentioned. In fact, there is an amazing lack of any kind of apparent drug use among the escorts. It's unusual to even have them order alcohol when offered a drink at the termas bars which I do frequently. All that's fine by me - who used up his lifetime supply a long time ago - as both they and I seem to be able to get maximum enjoyment without.

While I have never seen Poppers being used in the suanas, we all may be a little naive on the amount of drug use that goes on when the boys are not in the suanas. These guys are comprable to the guys their age in every other major city in the world who go out clubbing alot. I have personally seen 6 defferent "boys" use both extacsy and coke when they were "not on the job" this happened at the dance clubs they go to after they leave the saunas, ususally after 11:00 p.m. Two of the more popular boys that have been mentioned in posts on this board have offered me a combination of "pills" at the sauans as I was leaving on several different nights, I am sure the reason you don't see it at the saunas is that it is heavily discouraged there. These guys knew me well and went back by the bathroom and called me over. they had offered to take me with them to the dance clubs, and "this" was supposed to get us ready for the fun. I know one was extacsy, not sure what the rest was, as they swallowed all three just as they were leaving to go out.(I don't do drugs and declined)

Remember guys, when you see those rock hard abs, alot of the guys get them by dancing from 1:00a.m. in the morning until 6:00 a.m. literally non stop. While doing this, they all are drinking a lot of water so they have the energy from the X drug to dance and sweating profusly, drinking alot of water -- great diet plan, then they go to the gym to work out. I know this for a fact, as on more then a couple occasions the guys showed up at my hotel room at 9:00 or 10:00 in the morning from having danced all night and then came to my room from the gym to "Crash" getting up at 3:00 to head back to the saunas.

I have also had several do coke in front of me and 3 or 4 do pot. Again every time this hapened it was on my 2nd and third vist to Rio, with boys I had been with previously, so They knew I wasn't their to entrap, or report them to authorities or to the sauna owners. One guy said I will be right back and with in 5 minutes of the Marriott on copa, came back with a baggie of coke! Very few of the younger(or even 40 ish) gym bunnies in the states don't drugs, i am convinced it is the same in Rio(and London,Barcalona, etc.). Most of my friends in their mid to late 30's here in L.A. who work out reg., still do Extacy when they go out to the dance clubs. It's the only way you can dance constantly at the clubs, and not fall down exhasuted, according to them! It's the same in Rio, but I have also seen alot of coke, much more then i have seen in either L.A. or NYC.

TomCal-Ho, are you sure you didn't pop something that night at that horrible restaurant? Something wasn't quite right with you 'cause you stuck us with those scary people... AND THE BILL! LOL

The coke in Rio is beyond pure... and dirt cheap. Never seen poppers there, but I don't think the majority of young boys would want a tweaked out client.

RE: Viagra?

On another drug topic, if anyone needs Viagra while in Brazil, it's available (not especially cheap) at pharmacies ("drogarias") but they tell you a prescription is necessary. A friend who joined me in Brazil on my last visit needed a refill because he ran out during our stay ;-) and I just assumed that being non-narcotic they wouldn't ask for a prescription. My friend doesn't speak Portuguese, so I was translating for him. We just put on long faces and explained that he'd left the prescription in NY because he didn't realize he'd need it, and was there anything that could be done? After some consultations in the back room, they skulked out with the Viagra in hand and the sale was made. (At that price, I didn't think they'd let a customer get out the door empty-handed!) However, be aware, and if you have a prescription for Viagra and want more (although it's not cheap, it may still be cheaper than in the U.S.) at least bring the bottle or package with you when you go to the pharmacy to minimize hassles.

In general, you don't need a prescription for things like antibiotics in Brazil, but you do for anything narcotic or things like tranquilizers. It's similar to Mexico in that respect. In Argentina they're more strict; I once needed some Lomotil for diarrhea and it was prescription only (and they meant it). In Brazil or Mexico they wouldn't have blinked when you asked for it. So go prepared with plenty of supplies or a copy of your prescription if you're traveling in Argentina. It doesn't hurt to do the same in Mexico or Brazil.

RE: Viagra?

The BF (who speaks Portuguese) and I were able to get rohypnol at the drug store without a prescrip; but his Brazilian friend and he did all of the negotiation, which took awhile. I just sat there looking like Mickey the Dunce; something at which I'm very good. They sure helped take the edge off the coke at bedtime.

Later.

Plaza Republica

Talking of Sao Paolo

Brazilians would bring me to this restaurant, Churros(?) near Plaza Republica. On my way out to get a taxi at a street corner, I was mugged and beaten. With a bloody nose, no taxi driver that came ever stopped. I tried to go in a restaurant but was refused. Hard cold-hearted Paulistas!

Finally, a good cab drver (after 10 cabs passed by) stopped by. Dangerous place. AVOID BY ALL MEANS or have a taxi pick you up in front of the restaurant.
