From the day that I saw the first post (and I mean the day the first review was posted)regarding Brazil and Rio, I have been determined to go. Last year I decided to go to Montreal, and yes it was every bit as exciting as I thought it would be. My plan was to do Rio this October.

I often travel with one of my best friends, George (we went to Montreal together)and he was very nervous about the crime scene in Rio. He decided to do Mexico this year and after I could report my own experience in Rio, perhaps return with me next year. Well he got his plane tickets and arranged for a luxury condo in Puerto Villarta. Another friend of ours from Miami was going to fly to Phoenix and then they were to continue on. Now Ricardo, the Miami connection says that he cannot go with George. Now George desperately wants me to accompany him to Mexico. He says the Condo (a time share) is paid and I would only have to pay travel, food and entertainment.

We would be flying to Guadalahara for 3 days and on to Puerto Villarta for a week. Does anyone have any experience with the "entertainment" scene, especially in PV. I have to let him know soon. I am leaning toward Rio, which would really disappoint George. I would sincerely appreciate any advise, again especially regarding escorts and how to find them

If Mexico is so cheap for you due to the prepaid accomodation, why not do both. Save Rio for Jan or Feb and get the best of both worlds.

I've been to PV, it was a very very disappointing 'entertainment' scene down there. (Notice there are not many post here about it!!) I wrote a post or reply awhile back about PV, the only action you'll see there is at the Bola Bar (AKA 'Ebola Bar) off the beach from Blue Chairs/ Green Chairs.

I take my dollars & desire to Rio in a heart beat from what I've read here.

Daddy, tell George that his image of Rio is outdated, much like tourists' idea of NYC as a dangerous destination is outdated. They have cleaned up their act. There is a whole corps of "Tourist Police" who are very obviously there, keeping an eye on the touristy spots. I NEVER felt threatened, even walking the streets of Copacabana at midnight. Clearly, there are places to avoid, but if you use your common sense, you have nothing to fear. (If George lacks street smarts, he should watch himself in Mexico, too. :-) )
