Rome Hotel Single Room and Escort Suggestions

I am planning a trip to Rome in early August -- interested in the archaeology, history and art, of course. But I have reached that point in life where the hotel room really DOES matter. I like a decent sized room with a good chair and internet access that doesn't blow the credit card back across the Atlantic.

 

So many European hotels, when they rent you a single, rent you a SINGLE -- as in, about half the space of a double and a cot. I wonder if anyone on the Board here has good experiences to share, or advice about specific hotels to avoid. So far I have been working the Expedia/Hotline/Priceline package deals. Is this an example of a time when working through a good travel agent might make sense, or have they all closed up shop?

 

I know that the eternal city is largely a wasteland from the escort point of view, but any suggestions would be useful.

Italy is a bit of a problem for lodging. Usually more expensive and NOT good as especially in US people are used.

To find a decent hotel you have to consider highe prices.

But I guess with expedia/priceline you could find a good deal.

Of course it's important the area where you will be staying.

Don't forget that mostly form August 5th to 20th cities like ROme and Milan empty almost completely and people go on vacation.

Many stores are closed, too...

Of course if Colt hunk Carlo Masi is in Rome (it's his home city) when you are there don't miss him!
