Aero Hotel, Amsterdam

As an ex-frequent visitor to Amsterdam I was pondering about another visit this month, although follwowing all the closures, I havent been there since last summer. I usually stay at the Aero Hotel which is/was a large gay hotel and centrally located for all the venues. Last time I went I noted that it did not seem to be gay anymore and run by some Dutch ladies.

 

So I visited their website today and find that it is closed for renoveations until October. However, readers may be interested to read the appalling reviews here!

Seems another gay venue has dissappeared. So Sad.

I don't understand how anyone could stay there. My opinion goes with the one expressed in the reviews on Tripadvisor.

In addition there was nothing gay in this hotel ...

I remember when the Aero really was a gay hotel, when I visited for the first time, 35 years ago. Much as I still love Amsterdam as a city, its status as a gay mecca definitely seems to be in decline.

I should have said "there was nothing gay about this hotel". And I wasn't talking about the clientele
