Barcelona hotels and guides

I'll be traveling to Barcelona for a week in mid September. This will be my first trip to Spain. I would appreciate any hotel recommendations people might have. I would prefer being close to the Thermas and American Boys, etc. I've searched the forums and found two recommendations--Hotel California and Hotel Sant'Angelo. Any feedback on these or other recommendations?

 

Since my Spanish is very limited, I would also be interested in a private tour guide while I am there. Does anyone have any individuals or agencies to recommend?

It is 3 minutes walking from the Therma. When I want to bring a boy in my room, no problem.

Hotel California is very basic, and is on a very busy Boulevard - much street noise (and no A/C).

Actually, California does have air, but it's the noisy variety and yes, it's way too basic. San't Angelo is a better three star round the corner from Thermas with no questions asked. Nowadays I find myself staying pretty much anywhere I can get a great deal on the internet, the hotels are all pretty relaxed about guests. I have been getting good rates from http://www.expedia.nl for the Sants hotel, which is over the railway station. A decent four star, at about 75. Don't worry too much about WHERE you are, taxis are so cheap it makes no difference.

I usually stay at the NH Calderon, nice hotel and very well located, next to American Boys.

I found a new gay hotel (Hotel Axel) some months ago: http://www.hotelaxel.com. Anyways I've never stayed there yet.

I stayed in the Hotel California a couple of years ago and found it to be on the very scruffy and run down side, I'd certainly not go there again.

I can highly recommend this hotel, I stay there every time I am in Barcelona. Very useful: Direct Internet access via Flat Screen fromm your room, for browsing some nice escort listings whenever you feel like...rooms are beautiful and stylish. It is in the absolut center of the gay life. YOu should book over their website directly though, because they offer special rates you wont find on any other regular hotel booking site I always fond them more expensive than vooking directly there. Very nice, they offer a special rate for Superior rooms for single occupancy.
