Why Not Amsterdam....... the end in sight??

As a regular of the WhyNot I get the impression, as are a lot of people in Amsterdam do, that it cannot continue operating much longer.

 

I was there this weekend, 25/26 October, and witnessed the following.

 

Fridays Barman, also an escort, has lost so much weight that the others are openly calling him the skeleton (and with reason).

 

On Saturday the upstairs Barman throwing crates of Heineken, from the store room, onto the Bar about two feet from me and other customers. You could hear the crash two blocks away.

 

The same Barman openly sharing out packets of Hash with his colleague behind the Bar(both of mediteranean appearance!)in full view of the customers, even though there is a large sign near the entrance saying Absolutly No Drugs.

 

The Saturday evening Sex show cancelled (yet again) because there were only 3 punters. All were given a refund.

 

Arnaud (a well respected and exceptionally good escort) was billed on the website as being available until the 27 October, but was nowhere to be seen on the Saturday evening. I went to Amsterdam (from UK)that weekend because he was there for that week only.I know he deserves a night off now and then, but a Saturday??

 

Both Bars were empty from 11.30 pm on Friday and Saturday night (normal closing is 2.00 am). I was the only customer left on both evenings so I went to the Club 21, around the corner, which was full.

 

Local opinion is that the place will be bust very soon. It needs a massive make-over of the boys if it is to survive.

Consider yourself lucky to have missed him. There's a lot of new and fresh talent out there.

My last two visits were so bad - like what others wrote now - that I wondered why it still was open. You could get many better escorts from an agency so why bother with this? At least with the agencies you were not ripped off - as with the poor quality of boys at these bars in the last few years, who were all high on something and low on sexual power.

Well, I checked it out 2 weeks ago...

It was worse than I had feared. I stopped in several times on Friday and Saturday nights. Each time there were about six (worn looking) boys available and fewer clients. The place really feels like it is dying. A couple of the same boys were there that I saw a year ago; each looking worse. Not one guy in the place came close to attracting my interest. One of the boys told me that they are going to try to market an after hours sex party to bring in some kind of business. I'm sad to see one of the only places of its kind doing so poorly.

By contrast, I went over to Club 21, where I met a super cute and sweet Dutch jock boy who wsa more than happy to show me a good time!

This is the place at 21 Spuistraat? Just up the street from the Y-Not/Blue Boy? I was there twice and had a blast both times. No pressure from the "Madame" to make a selection. Lots of hot guys to choose from. Then, they had a small bar so you could sit, have a drink or two and chat people up. It was nice.

 

Haven't been there in years. Seemed well managed and fun though.

Yes EBG, 21 Spuistraat is Club 21. I have also been there a number of times and it is great. The last time I went early and it was still quiet. So I sat and had a couple of beers and chatted with the various boys as they came in until I found someone that attracted me. No pressure to get on with it at all.

Is there still a place called "Try It" (???) at 86 Kuiperstraat?? It is a quick tram ride out of the central district (via Rembrantplein) as I remember. Bartender / Madame was a great guy named Case.

No, the Try It closed about 5 years ago, as did the Boys for Men (also called the 44), and De Boys (on the Amstel).

 

Out of five establishments the only ones left are the Whynot (totally run down)and the Club 21. All very sad.

 

Funnily enough I was in Amsterdam last week, on one of my regular visits, and I made the decision that I shall not be returning....that after more than 20 years visiting 10 times a year...

My last visit to Amsterdam was three years back and I also decided to avoid it in the future.

 

I remember so many wonderful times - from my very first experience with an escort (that took place in Amsterdam nearly 14 years ago) to meeting one special escort who will always remain in my memory as THE BEST (who worked in Amsterdam) and a few others whom I met over the years and who provided top quality service whenever I visited that city. But my last time there things were running down and the only interesting places left were the saunas. Even the escorts in some agencies proved lacking that special something that used to set them apart.

 

On WHY NOT -I began blowing the whistle on them back over 6 years ago when the quality of escorts really took a dive and clients were treated pretty shabbily by the owner. But oh! for the days in the early '90's when they had some really hot boys and men from all over the world - and those special nights when 3 or 4 escorts danced on the bar while the others made the rounds and tried to spark your interest. I remember one Brazilian hunk... let's just say he nearly swollowed my tongue in the open in the bar while trying to convince me I might enjoy a private session...

 

Seems the gay scene in Hamburg has also gone down. Frankfurt was anotehr favorite city but began changing some 5 years ago. I have not visited it lately and so don't know how it is now but they had some terrific houses of boys back then. Never visited Spain (to my regret) and after seeing the European Cup Championships... would like to "meet" some of the Greek, Czech and Portughese players...
