These are pretty slim pickings, but thanks anyway. I suspect that there isn't much escorting in Scandinavia because the communities are small.

The communities aren't that small, really. A number of times I've stayed over in Copenhagen at the Sauna Club Amigo (I like to use a bathhouse or sauna as an inexpensive hotel sometimes - I'd be there anyway, so what the hell), and on a Friday or Saturday night, it's wall to wall with hundreds of naked young men in search, more aggressive a scene than I've seen even in Amsterdam. Of course, if anyone wants to fund a research grant, I'll be happy to look into this more deeply and update my results!

 

There used to be places like that in Stockholm, but they had a crackdown on public sex because of the epidemic, and it hasn't bounced back. The thing is that Scandinavia has a very free attitude toward sex (comparatively, anyway), which changes the nature of the escort scene to more of a tourist industry.

 

However, there's an active gay escort scene in the red light district in Copenhagen. There's one in Stockholm too, but my experience was that the scene in Stockholm is governed by how closely the police are coming down on the drug scene.

There's a small, active scene in Oslo and in Helsinki, but I think that these scenes wax and wane from month to month.

 

Another factor is that the economies in Scandinavian countries are under stress.

 

Also, Copenhagen and Stockholm in particular have large fundamentalist Muslim communities as a result of immigration over the last few decades, and as with every other community, some of these guys are active participants in the gay scene, including in the escort scene. Some of the Muslim communities are overtly anti-American, which doesn't inhibit contact among guys at the baths <grin>, but which also means that Americans traveling or hiring escorts in these areas need to be security-conscious.

Sauna Amigos was a dreary and boring place when I went a few years ago, yet others have said they had a good time there. A friend recently returned (in the last month) said the sauna was still dirty with very little in the way of attractive guys.

Copenhagen is the only place I can think of offhand where the cute guys you see on the street in the daytime are actually at the bars at nightime. And there is just an endless parade of cute guys there!

The supply in Sweden is limited for several reasons, lack of tradition to pay for male service, easy access to guys for free and the fact that prostitution is illegal and the buyer is the criminal.

However internet has of course made it easier to establish contact.
