I will be in Lisbon Portugal in late February to early March. It has been very difficult to locate information about the sauna/hustler scene in Lisbon. I have heard of Sauna Tatoo and Agua no Bico (bar) in the Metro Rato area. If anyone has any current information on these or any other spots in Lisbon I would greatly appreciate it.

As far as I know, both Tattoo and Agua no Bico are bars, not saunas. They're on r. São Marçal (as I recall) in the Bairro Alto. Haven't been to Lisbon in a long time, but when I was there Agua no Bico had a different name and was definitely a hustler bar. It may still be under its new name. BTW, in Lisbon many establishments look like houses and have locked doors. You ring the bell for admission.

One of the Brazilian sites a while back reported that Sauna Grecus on r. do Telhal had rentboys. Don't know if it's still in business, though.

There was a big t-room (cottage) in the metro station on Pça. dos Restauradores where it looked like there was a possibility of interesting action. This was all pre-Expo, though, so I don't know if the station was remodeled and "sanitized" during the metro expansion.

Lisbon is still a fairly poor city, with a ring of slums on the outskirts housing some of the many immigrants. The city teems with African expatriates, and in recent years also has become a mecca, apparently, for Ukrainians and other Eastern Europeans searching for work in the west. A lot of these people are young, male, far from home and broke, so I'm willing to guess that at least some of them are supplementing their incomes by peddling their wares. We expect some serious research and reporting back here! ;-)

I too suspect that there is a lot of flesh peddeling going on in Lisbon. I have certainly seen this in Madrid--which is far more prosperous. One of my motivations in going to Lisbon is that at the Black and White Bar in Madrid I was often attracted to Portugese men. For the past few years I found many young men from Portugal working at Black and White and various saunas in the Checa district of Madrid. A trip to Lisbon to scope the place out is my plan. I had been discouraged in traveling to Lisbon by reports of crime. I learned in Brazil that such reports are often exagerated and that using common sense will generally serve to protect me. I look forward to sharing my adventures!

Even without escorts, Libson is worth visiting. It's a beautiful city, very reminiscent of San Francisco (or maybe that should be the other way around, as Lisbon is far older!) with it's hills, pastel houses, little trolleys, views of bridges and water, etc. Lots of fascinating museums, churches and palaces (the coach museum in Belem is really worthwhile, especially the grand state coachs from the Baroque era). Good food and café life. I thought it was very, very pleasant and a fine place to hang out for a while! Enjoy!

I spent a week in Lisbon at the beginning of April and am just now reporting on it. All in all Lisbon is a delightful place to visit. It is full of things to do, friendly people and good food. I found the electric trams the best way to see the city. For 2.4 Euros you can buy a pass to use the trams and busses all day. The Monastary of St Jeronimo is one of the most spectacular buildings I have ever seen. The nearby Tower of Belem is another jem among many in this beautiful city. The gay scene is another matter. It is spread out in the city with no true center. Bars and clubs do not get going until after midnight and for a first time visitor I found it difficult to find the bars (poorly marked) and as cabs were not as abundant as in Madrid it was more difficult to travel around at night. The saunas seem to be concentrated in the area near the hospital of St. Jose. I finally found Grecus Sauna at 77,4 Telhal but never found Spartacus which is no longer on Largo Trinidad in the city center. I would highly recommend that you see Lisbon for its beautiful scenery. For those that have been to Rio, Barcelona and Madrid I think you will find Lisbon's gay scene difficult to experience.

Do any of you guys have any advice about finding escorts/hustlers/rentboys in Lisbon, Oporto, or Lagos (Portugal)? The info above in this thread is a bit old and uncertain. I am planning to go there in June, and hope to find some action. I'll be grateful for any news of recent experiences in Portugal.
